Hi there, I own a 318 compact with similar probs, my EML mine was a Ideal Control Valve I think. The car was sorted then after 2weeks EML came on again and this time the car's misfiring. I then packed up the car for 2 weeks exactly to use my second car, afterwhich I started the car to take the garage again and to my surprise the liht never came back on. then again after leaving the car at the garage for 2days they reported that the light never came back on. the 3 days afterwards the EML has come on thrice in 5days. When the EML comes on I switch the engine off for about 5mins then restart the car and the EML seems to disappear.. Can any1 hlep PLZ?.

SOURCE: BMW (e39 1999) eml and asc lights and in limp mode

Check the ABS brake sensors in your wheels, if they are not functioning properly. It will trigger the computer to engage the ASC auto stability control light as the asc uses the brakes to assist in control. I will also engage the EML engine management light to slow the rev point to limp mode

SOURCE: 328i BMW, and the EML light is on

Sometimes you can reset the engine warning light by disconnecting the battery for ten minutes or more (be sure you have your stereo unlock code if needed).
That is not a good solution, it is better to diagnose and eventually fix the problem.
Have the car computer scanned with a code reader, the codes you get in return witll tell you exactly where to find the problem.

Here is the code list.

To get the codes the code reader must be connected to the car computer.

sometimes on Bmw you may need a Interface 16 pin Adapter, depending on the code reader.

Here is a home user code reader : PocketScan™ OBD II Code Reader (AXRCP9125 ...

Here is a good scaner.

Always better having the job done at a qualified garage.

SOURCE: Oil light flashing here and there..weird

is it getting noisy... that's usually the first clue... to rule out anything serious have the oil pressure checked.

if its flooding then its not sparking,or auto choke stuck .suggest you learn german and swear at it in own language ,failing which take it to a dealer as it could be anything from a cracked coil pack to a temperature sensor and without the vehicle in front of me this is one of them look and see type jobs.Could evan be the multiplug on the coil pack loose honestly its very dificult to diagnose without hands on .

SOURCE: Eml and diagnostic problems

As for the limp mode unless you have an expensive diagnostic system this usually has to be done by BMW (anything to get ya to a dealership!!). The comms problem, is the key turned in the ignition?

My alarm keeps going off bmw 316ti

Yes, it could be the door switches. If the door switches aren't on the B pillar, then they are within the door lock mechanism and you will have to remove the inner door skin to get to them.
