Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. I had the same things happen to me and it turned out to be a fuel pump. Here is the thing though. There are a lot of things that cause the car to not start. You need air, fuel, and fire to start the car. It could be a fuel issue. Check and see if you can hear your fuel pump kicking on when you first turn the key. You need to check your fuel pump fuse, relay, and reset button, if equipped. It could be a clogged fuel filter or gas line, possibly a fuel injector. If these check out, you need to start looking at the ignition system. Check the spark plugs/coils, wires, coil pack, distributor, cap, rotor. It could be anyone of them. This is why you need to test them and see if you are getting spark. If you are, we can rule them out. If not, they will need tested. It could be a broken timing belt/chain. It could be a cam sensor or crank sensor. It could be the computer. I know it is a lot of parts, but if any of them are bad, it can cause the car to not start. As long as it is cranking, you can rule out the battery, starter, and alternator, more less the charging system. Check what you can and refer to a manual as much as possible. You can test for fuel pressure to rule out the fuel and test for spark to rule out most of the ignitions. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. The best way to solve any issues is by trying to get a code off the computer. Autozone and other part stores sell the computer scanner for around 40-100 dollars. If you can get a code, it may lead you to your problem. I will answer them as soon as I can. Thanks for using FixYa and best wishes.

2001 Kia Sportage goes dead while driving plus gas spews out when refueling

Need a little more info: Is it a V-6? Does it just die at random times? Kia has had problems with crank shaft position sensors. The vehicle will just die and may restart immediately or take several minutes till it will restart.

First of all you need to provide information about the type of engine you have in the KIa Sportage. Any KIA CRDi engine is the same as Hyundai CRDi but not all petrol engines are same.

2003 kia sportage starting problems

It could be a problem with the fuel pump or igntion module/ coil pack. The next time it stops, fuel pressure needs to be checked and have the ignition coil pack and module tested at a local parts store.

My Kia Sportage just dies after I start it and go about 2 miles. the engine light does go on but after a few minutes it will restart and the light will go off. I can drive it back home but can't go long...

I would see if you can go to a auto parts they can read the code that will help it might be a alternator which you local parts store can check for free while its on the car.

Hello mrhbollinger: My name is Roger and I will help you. You did not say Exactly what happened. If you were driving down the road and the engine died? Or if you pulled up to a stop and the engine died? I would check a few things first. Does the engine have over 60,000 to100,000 miles on it? If so I would look at the timing belt as a problem. Check the compression Compression should be around 160 psi. Any thing less then a 100 psi. the cylinder will not fire. Also keep in mind that this engine is a interference engine. This means should the timing belt break. The engine will suffer severe internal engine damage. By that I mean any valve that was open when timing belt broke will be damaged. Piston damage will also accrue. If the timing belt is not th problem I would look at the fuel system you should have 43 psi at the test port.I would also test for spark at the spark plug wires. If you have none and you check spark first. Check compression to make sure the timing belt is not the problem. If you remove the oil cap and can see the the camshaft. Have some one crank the engine over. If the valves do not move the timing belt is the problem. Should you need further help please just ask Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

It may have overheated to a point that damage was done to the engine. Have a trusted mechanic check it out. Good Luck.

2002 kia sportage stopped and would not restart while driving

If it wont turn over and all that happens is the starter makes noise, it could be an alternator issue. If your alternator is bad, then you battery wont recharge and eventually it wont have enough power to restart the engine.
