1996 GEO PRIZM; HAVING TO ADD COOLANT EVERY OTHER DAY, TEMPERATURE HAND GOES UP ALMOST TO THE HOT MARK THEN DROPS BACK DOWN TO THE CORRECT READING. OIL SEEM TO BE A LITTLE MILKY.

Is Supertech 50/50 universal antifreeze okay to use in a 1996 saturn sl1? Also, how do you add antifreeze after the old has been drained?


Yes, that should be fine, especially if you have drained the system. Fill your rad, wait to see if it goes down on it's own then top up. Turn heater on full and start the car with the rad cap off. Keep adding until coolant isn't going down. Once the engine comes up to operating temperature, replace rad cap. Then shut down car and let it cool down. Then once it has cooled down, top up coolant reservoir to full mark.

Make sure rad cap is back on the rad before shutting down the car as it will overflow hot coolant all over if not...

How much coolant in a 1996 prizm


well make sure it is premixed first,never add straight antifreeze thats not mixed,check to make sure its full in the radiator and the overfull canister has markings on it for adding when hot or cold

No my alero is overheating. I have replaced the thermostat and waterpump and put a new cap on reservior and im losing coolant out the overflow

I replaced my radiator on my 2004 with a 2.2 and it seems like the thermostat is not opening. It can not get the air out. It seem to just to over heat and push the coolant out. Randy

We just replaced the radiator and the thermastat but the needle still goes to hot


replace the temperature sending unit. Its right there by the thermostat. You can get this at any auto parts store. just need an open end wrench to change it. they do go bad(found out the hard way several years back). I hope this helps you

The gauge in the car keeps going to about midway and will go all the way to hot. There is no smoke coming out, but the radiator cap is hot. This is a 94 Geo Prizm.


You normally wont see any smoke when a vehicle is hot.. If you mean steam then you may not notice steam untill either you blow a hose or the cap starts to lose its ability to pressurize the radiator. Its normal for the cap to be hot. I would listen for a bubbling sound cause that usually means the coolant is boiling. I recommend checking your thermostat and make sure you are getting proper coolant flow. It can be many things that cause a vehicle o over heat.. A bad water pump, a sticky thermostat or a clogged radiator. On some cases the temperature sensor can become faulty and give false readings.. Good Luck

Power streering leak, smoke under hood for 1996 Geo Prizm


Yes , power steering fluid will smoke if it gets on a hot engine, especially on any part of the exhaust system. Barring anything else wrong with the engine such as a coolant leak, and the engine running OK otherwise, I would say that the smoke is from power steering fluid dripping or getting blown on the exhaust by the fan.
