1996 thunderbird Thought it was tranny problem but replaced and no change. will drive on flat ground ok but once warmed up or try to climb hill has zero power and engine is strong and sounds great. Could this be some sort of external sensor?

This transmission 4R70W needs an aftermarket, enlarged, oil cooler to work - an very well known problem in this model
If one is not fitted the oil overheats and the valves controlling the gear shifting literally seize - practically blocking all oil circulation and cutting the power to the transmission. This also severely damages it, dramatically reducing the life of the tranny.
Make sure the cooler is correctly installed, the oil is in the correct quantity and that it was correctly installed.

Sounds like you might have some water in your tank "BAD GAS", Try a bottle of HEAT and pour into tanl and drive a few day's, This should help it. When weather warms most os the gas stations have water that gets into there tank. If this don't work you might check engine for vacume leaks, good luck to you.
