We are having the same problem with Ford Focus 2003. The windshield wipers also become unfunctional. We tried changing the brake light switch, but it didn't solve the problem. We're going to look into wiring problems next, especially faulty ground wires. Did your problem get resolved?

in the fuse panel under the hood pop the cover off and check the relay all the to the right of the box. Pull it and look for rust and corrosion on the bottom side. If there is change the relay you can get them at advance for 13 bucks it will fix all thoose problems. im a mechanic and also drive a 2003 ford focus and it has done that to me twice already and i've seen several other times as well. It is just that part of the box is in a bad spot where water can drip on it.

Gear shift stuck on the park position, 1998 ford crown victoria

Are the brake lights working, as a safety feature the foot brake has to be held on at the same time a gear is selected. The lock is an electrical operated solenoid operated on the same circuit as the brake lights, if a fault has developed in that circuit and the brake lights don't work, it won't come out of park, could be the fuse or the brake light switch. Good luck.

My 02 mustang is stuck in park and i have no brake lights

All indications of a bad neutral safety switch. It's a safety feature designed to prevent you from shifting from Park without your foot being on the brake. If the switch is bad, the car can't sense your foot on the brake to allow you to shift it from Park.

Shift lever stuck in park

The park is locked out with a pin that is pulled back by small electric solenoid plunger, the solenoid is powered when you step on the brake pedal, so it the brake lights are not working then the shifter will not release from park. The idea here is of course to have the brakes applied before the car is put in "Drive", it is called the Park lock safety feature by Ford. You should be able to override this by turning the ignition switch to just short of the on/run position (between off and run) while jiggling the shift lever.

Brake lights staying on when car comes out of park 2002 ford focus

Clint, you might want to check your break switch to see if your button is stuck. It is right above your brake pedal. The pedal led actually hits the button of the switch. See if you can loosen it.

My 2001 ford focus is stuck in park, stepping on brake, does not release it from park, and brake lights are not working.........

Without the brake lights working the shift interlock can't release. Turn the key just off the "locked" position and you should be able to shift to neutral and start the engine then shift to drive or reverse. Just don't shift back into park until you are parking the car to leave it.

2003 Ford Focus ZX-5: Brake lights stuck on

Check the lights on the 3rd brake light. If the bulbs are out the brake lights will remain on when in gear, but work properly when in park. I had the same problem had to go to Napa to get bulbs (5) and now all is fine.

2003 ford windstar won't shift out of park

There's a safety feature that you have to have your foot on the brake before the gearshift can be moved. In rare cases a vehicle thats parked against a concrete curb stop may have pressure in the drivetrain from being jammed against something when it was put into park from drive. The linkage could also be stuck to the transmission.
