Yes your transmission is computer controlled so a computer failure would directly affect operation. To change the fluid and filter just drop the pan remove the one or two bolts holding the filter in place and then grasp on two sides and pull straight down then take said filter to your friendly parts store nad match with a new one reverse steps to reassembl taking care to keep everything hospital clean.

The pan is not under the transmission, it is on the front of it.

2001 ford escape is not serviceable and you can not change the filter. all you can do if you have not done the reglar service flushing is change out 4 qts of fluid and hope for the best.

Tranny slips when i accelerate from dead stop/

Before I would drop the transmission to replace it, I would add about 1/2 cup of brake fluid to it, and when you take it from PARK, (to go in forward motion) pull the gear selector all the way to "1" and as it starts rolling , then bump it up into drive.
The brake fluid will "soften" the seals inside the transmission and "clean" some of the trash off the bands in it.
This should be your decision to try, I did it and after about 300 miles, just put it in "drive" as normal, no need to replace fluid sooner, just normal intervals.
Use this info. at your discretion, best of luck with it!

Transmission makes whining noise in park and neutral. Wont shift into overdrive. And reverse wont work.

Time for a rebuild or a new tranny, this one won't last much longer, sounds like there are bearings and clutches failing or failed already.

MY 1998 MAZDA MILLENIA'S TRANSMISSION IS GIVING ME PROBLEMS, IT ROLLS BACK WARDS WHEN IN DRIVE ON A HILL.

Go 2 a Ford dealer parts dept. Ask 4 a bottle of: Motorcraft Additive Friction Modifier. STINKS REAL BAD!!!! Usually used in differentials but will lubercate transmission if added into trans fluid tube and vehicle driven shifting thru the gears to get mixture worked into all parts. If this doesn't work you might need tp drop the pan from the tranny & replace the filter and the fluid, if so have pan ready to catch fluid when u break loose 1 side! Jiffy lube can do this & power flush the tranny, if required. Otherwise mechanical problem for tranny repair shop.

2003 dodge neon transmission issues

Well no metal shavings should be in the filter if there is there is,something is not right internally in your transmission. When there is larger metal shavings in your tranny filter your tranny is probabley gonna have to be rebuilt or replaced. You can try changing the fluid and filter and see if that helps but nore than likely you will need to change out tranny with a new or rebuilt one.

on dodge stratus when you have no gear change or slipping of gear change only 2 good possibility's do the the way those trannys are designed either!! the tranny filter is stopped up and need's changed which is rare on those tranny's or you have internal damage to the clutch pack/ clutch apply servo's and front pump

Had my tcc solenoid replaced. the mechanic said that the transmission fluid is black and there is a burnt smell. what do I do. I am not sure if I got him right that the transmission fluid cannot be...

Transmission fluid is a hydraulic fluid that can withstand high temperatures and high pressures but has a lot of anti foaming and detergent additives mixed in. If the fluid change was neglected then the mechanic will not change it because he runs the risk of a simple tranny oil drop and fill becoming a blow tranny. After years of usage the fluid begins to break down and loose its cleaning properties which allows deposits to build up on the internal clutches and plates inside the transmission. Removing the old fluid and installing fresh, detergent dense fluid would basically clean out all the material deposits which in most cases is good, however this shock to the system would cause the tranny to start slipping, have internal pressure leaks and eventually not perform its job. Save for the tranny and remember this lesson for the future it sucks but it will stay with you.

Don't flush the transmission. Remove the transmission oil pan and replace the governor pressure solenoid and switch. Reinstall the pan and add fluid. Disconnect the battery for a few minutes and reconnect to clear any codes and road test.
