Question about 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan

Mold inside my car! For the past few months we have been getting a lot of rain in northern California. I have noticed a lot of moisture on the inside of my car, mainly on the windows. I have to dry it every morning with a towel. It would be too much for a defroster to handle. I didn't think anything of it other than it being a pain in the ****. This morning I noticed mold growing underneath all 4 of my floor mats. I removed them from my car and wiped down the carpets with resolve carpet cleaner. I wasn't able to get it all because it is growing under the seats as well. This is a huge problem for me because I am allergic to mold. I have broken out in hives and didn't realize that was the cause. Has anyone else with a 2009 tiguan, panoramic sunroof, been having this issue? I have an spot with my dealership in 2 days.

Hello....just checking if you found the source to this problem. We are having the same mold and moisture problem with our 2009 Tiguan. We're also in N.California the mold is bad. Anyways, this just adds to the list of issues we've had with this car. At the dealers now and they're saying it's going to cost at least $1600 on top of carbon in the intake that's going to cost another $800+.

The sun roof has 4 drain tubes located in all 4 corners. The tubes are about 3/8 of an inch in diameter. There could be several problems, check front drain tubes for blockages dirt, spider webs etc. If they look good you can test them, open roof and pour about a cup full of water down the drain hole slowly, Water should exit behind the front wheels. If water is not leaking outside, its is leaking inside. Rears, you have to pull the headliner down slightly to see, you might have to remove trim or assist handles to take a peek. I have had several dark colored trucks where the drain tubes shrink from the heat and let go. Sunroofs do leak, but they call it a controled leak, The next big problem is the carpet, what you see ontop is nothing, there is gallons of water under the carpet, Do not let the dealership just vaccuum the carpet on top, the correct way is to remove the carpet, replace the under pad. This is very important, it is either recyclied rags or foam. Also everything has to dry out mostly the wire harness and modules. The carpet will be ok once cleaned, it is made of nylon. Good luck, Kirk fc6fc

Sounds like a major weather stripping issue, being an 09 I would hope something like that would be covered under warranty. Mold is no joke, it can make you very sick

Hi. You need to dry out your car. You have too much moisture inside.
To dry it out you need to air dry out for a few days with the windows open and inside a garage. Then you'll need a demolding agent and wash or wipe it out. Hope that helps.

Rain leaks

NO, it is most likely getting in through the cowl vent area under the wipers. Normally the water drains out the inner fender, but if its clogged with leaves and pine needles, it wont drain and will fill up past the cool air intake and get into the cabin. I would pull the cowl vent grille and make sure the drains are not clogged.

Condensation inside trunk

You can also have a leak around one of the tail lights, or the rear window seal.
You may need the help of a good body shop to find the problem.

I put my car up 4 the winter it was running great.... I pulled it out it was running great.... it rained real bad and a lot of moisture it would start for 3 months.... then it started back up running great...

Check spark plug wires and ignition parts, try using WD-40 type of moisture remover. Ignition coils tend to react to moisture if it gets inside.

Won't start after a good rain shower. Noticed drive lite flashing. Will turn over but won't start. Will start in dry weather.

You should apply dielectric grease to the insides of the spark plug wire boots liberally. Also, you can spray WD-40 inside the distributor cap to displace moisture which will allow your car to start.

3rd door seal leak

From what I understand (and have experienced) the S-10 has a tendency to need the pins and bushings replaced early. Mine started with moisture in the cab, but the problem became apparent when there was a breeze around my door frame. I confirmed the diagnosis with my "car guy" and have replaced my pins and bushings. The mystery moisture and wind-noise is now a thing of the past. More recently I've had to move on to the next disgustingly popular issue... the broken third door handle.

2004 endeavor problem

Souns like a leak is allowing water into the cabin area, there may have been a leak in the firewall but it looks like it's coming in from somewhere else. Take a look at the rubber door seal in the drivers side door jam and check it for damage or possibile leak area's, if you find a leak here it can be sealed with silicone or you can replace the entire dorr seal. The only other possibility for the leak would be the seal around the windshield, also check this and seal with silicone if a leak is deteteced.

Hope this helps
