Question about Honda Insight

2 Answers

I have a 2001 Honda Insight. I don't smoke, so I have never needed to use the cigarette lighter socket. Recently I purchased some electronics that I want to be able to charge while I am driving. The nominal research I am doing indicates that I will need to change the socket and the fuse in order to be able to use the cigarette lighter socket in this way. Is this correct? What is the process that I need to do in order to make this useable? Thank you for whatever assistance you can provide.

The sockets pull out with some tabs and you may have to pull out the dash board peice, it's fairly simple, they just plug in. Just get the correct one so there is no wiring involved. Check the fuse first though as this may only be the issue at hand.

The lighter in a Chevy Lumina can get lost easily if you routinely pull it from the socket to plug in electronic devices like GPS systems, cell phone chargers and laptops. If so, you need to replace it.

2001 Montero Sport cigarette lighter interior light will not turn off

No its not normal and yes that could drain the battery.
I would think the light around the ignition key lock would be on too.
Probably a courtesy light problem - there is a timer somewhere that turns those lights off after you close the doors.
If it is just the light for the lighter you could cut that wire.

Had cell phone and computer plugged into dual cigarette lighter unit and cigarette lighter overheated and quit working - we checked the fuse - it seems fine.Just want the cigarette lighter socket to work...

More than likely overheated the wiring going to the lighter as well and burned it off. If you pull the lighter socket out you should see if it did. Simply solder it back on and be careful not to overload it again.

No power on the cigarette lighter,,2001 honda civic

You might have a blown fuse, check the fuses. if the lighter does'nt heat up the lighter itself could be bad and need to be replaced, or the outer shell that holds the lighter might need to be replaced.

It could be as simple as a blown fuse, could also be a bad socket or bad connections.
