    Eyecue,

    I need to know, something is there a fuel pump on the VW diesel? I know all gas engines require fuel pumps. But with all my books, they don't say there is a fuel pump on this engine, Here is what I know, it was running before the timing belt broke, we have replaced the head, timing belt, water pump, idlers. We checked all clearance and worked off of TDC on the #1 cylinder. Ran several test, by turning the crank to make sure the crank and the notch on the flywheel were the same. The fuel shut-off valve was giving me a problem, I've bypassed the circuit, and went from the battery to the shut-off valve. I still can't get any fuel to the injectors... What do you think?

Normally the solenoid that moves the cut -off valves seldom gets damaged. If testing was done by connecting it to the battery then you may have to trace back the issue back up to its relay. Relay 109, have it test using the battery. Other issues which is related to the shut off valve can be solved by cleaning the intake manifold or a faults Mass Air flow sensor which may not show up when you run the diagnostics. In some VW cars the O ring can cause the issue. Make sure to check these as well.

If your doing a check on the fuel pump just tirn the ignition key to the On position without starting the engine. If the pump is good you will hear it run for 5 seconds only. If not have the priming switch check next for it operations. It will be incorperated with the engines oil pressure switch.

What is the primary problem that you are having with the car?
If it is a no start condition then you need to check some other things.
1. BAttery and cables.
2. Ignition circuit
3. Fuel pressure

    Turn the key to the on position and listen for the fuel pump to come on. IF you hear it then that is good, if you dont then check the fuses and if they are okay then you need to check for voltage at the fuel pump contacts at the tank. If they are good then you have to replace the fuel pump

    What is the year and model and what engine does it have? There is an injector pump on all diesel engines and it is a costly thing to replace.

If plug an plug wire has been replaced , an dist. cap an rotor an problem is still there ,maybe a fuel injector problem .
Perform the fuel injector coil test. Refer to Fuel Injector Solenoid Coil Test .
A fuel injector coil winding resistance that is too high or too low will affect engine drivability. A fuel injector control circuit DTC may not set, but a misfire may be apparent. The fuel injector coil windings are affected by temperature. The resistance of the fuel injector coil windings will increase as the temperature of the fuel injector increases.
Diagnostic Aids
?€¢
Monitoring the misfire current counters, or misfire graph, may help to isolate the fuel injector that is causing the condition.

?€¢
Operating the vehicle over a wide temperature range may help isolate the fuel injector that is causing the condition.

?€¢
Perform the fuel injector coil test within the conditions of the customer's concern. A fuel injector condition may only be apparent at a certain temperature, or under certain conditions.

Observe the ECT Sensor parameter with a scan tool.
Is the ECT Sensor parameter within the specified range?
10-32?°C (50-90?°F)

  1. Disconnect the multi-way harness connector of the fuel injectors.
  2. Measure the resistance of each fuel injector between the ignition 1 circuit and the fuel injector control circuit, at the multi-way connector with a DMM. Refer to Testing for Continuity in Wiring Systems.
Is the resistance within the specified range for each injector?
11-14 ohms
Go to Fuel Injector Balance Test with Special Tool or Fuel Injector Balance Test with Tech 2

  1. Disconnect the multi-way harness connector of the fuel injectors.
  2. Measure the resistance of each fuel injector between the ignition 1 voltage circuit and the fuel injector control circuit, at the multi-way connector with a DMM. Refer to Testing for Continuity in Wiring Systems.
  3. Record each fuel injector resistance value.
  4. Subtract the lowest resistance value from the highest resistance value.
Is the difference equal to, or less than, the specified value?
3 ohms

2007 Hyundai Entourage codes P2187, PP0174,P2189,P2195,P2270,P2272

I've come across these codes before. In almost every case there was an air leak in the intake air hose (hose between the engine air filter & the throttle body). Inspect this hose & tubes attached to it. This is especially true when the lean code includes the comment 'at idle'
P2187 - System too lean at idle Bank 1
P0174 - System too lean Bank 2
P2189 - System too lean at idle Bank 2
P2195 = HO2S Signal Biased/Stuck Lean (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
P2270 = HO2S Signal Stuck Lean (Bank 1 Sensor 2)
P2272 = HO2S Signal Stuck Lean (Bank 2 Sensor 2)

P2187 & P2189 = In order to provide the best possible combination of drivability, fuel economy and emission control, the PCM uses a closed loop air/fuel metering system. The PCM monitors the HO2S signal voltage and adjusts fuel delivery based in closed loop fuel control. Changes in fuel delivery will be indicated by the long-term and the short-term fuel trim values. The ideal fuel trim value is around 0%. The PCM will add fuel when the HO2S signal is indicating a lean condition. Additional fuel is indicated by fuel trim values that are above 0%. The PCM will reduce fuel when the HO2S signal is indicating a rich condition. Reduction in fuel is indicated by fuel trim values that are below 0%. The DTC relevant to fuel trim will be set when the amount reaches excessive levels because of a lean or rich condition

Hi, I have a 2001 ford f250 diesel. Recently I`ve lost fuel ecomomy (600 km/tank to 400km/tank),and also lost power. The turbo sound has changed and is not as quick to spool. At normal driving turbo...

I had one of our work trucks do something similar. It turned out to be the tube that goes to the charged air cooler was split. This is a large plastic tube that carries the pressurized air from the turbo to the chraged air cooler (it's in front of the radiator) then back to the engine.
Start the engine and have some one hold it at a fast idle and feel around for an air leak on those tubes. Be careful not get your hands in the belt or fan.

Starting problem

Try the idle air control valve it is located near the throttle body it has a four wire plug and has two small hoses attached to it this is a small stepper motor that controls the amount of air on start up this part will cost about $200 from a popular auto parts store.
