Front end shimmy. Shop says passenger side radial arm is bent and wheel will not free wheel. What is radial arm? Need diagram of parts associated.

First, the shop diagnosis sounds a bit strange, unless you are not understanding what you were told.
I have heard of a radius arm but likely I've called it by a different name (like the proper name for a driveshaft is a propeller shaft, but if you call it that no one will know what you're talking about) The part I fail to understand is that its preventing the wheel from freewheeling? Makes no sense.
I suggest that you either have them put the car in the air and physically show you what they are telling you, or have another shop take a look at it and see what they find.
Most front end shimmy I've seen is usually caused by bad ball joints or a bad bushing elsewhere in the suspension.

I am trying to identify the name of the part that has broken

sounds like a rear radius arm has rotted off,you should be able to pick one up at a parts store or even a dealer, usually the dealer will have better luck getting the correct part and they can show you a diagram of the suspension and let you p[ick out the part you need, hope this helps

I'm looking for a front suspension diagram for a 1997 Ford Ranger 4wd. Can you point me in the right direction?

Suspension The independent front suspension (IFS) system is composed of a two-piece front driving axle, two front coil springs (5310) and two radius arms. The front driving axle consists of two independent axle arms. One end of each axle arm is anchored to the frame (5005). The other end of each axle arm is supported by the front coil springs and radius arm.

1995 e150 ford van,, 4.9 6cyl i need to replace the bushings on the radius arms. do i need to remove the springs or do the radius arms , just unbolt (front and the back) and remove? i appreciate your help....

Hi Darrell,
No the springs will remain in place,You will need new bolts and nuts before you start the job, they are 1/2 x one'll need five of them.unfortunately there are three large rivets you will need to torch off besides the other three bolts and nuts. Remove the radius arm nut and outer bushing before you loosen the arm.
good luck
