Question about Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

1 Answer

When I have a trailer hooked up and turn my left signal on both taillights blink on trailer-NOT THE TRUCK. then if I turn on the right signal it works normal. I checked the wiring for current ahead of the connection on the rear where the trailer wire plugs into and the problem is towards the front end. Also both fuses in the fuesbox are showing that both lights are blinking when the left signal is on. Can you give me any ideas where to look for the crossed wire or do you think the signal switch is bad on the stearing collum? Thank you Robert

Diagnostic times 3
test truck on its own (never mind the trailer plug) if ok not truck
test trailer on its own (use good batery or charger) if ok not trailer
test truck trailer system now look for cross wire or pinch wire in trailer harness
could also be corosion at rear 6-or-7 way plug causing crssover power
eliminate source one at a time and you will locate problem

I have a standard 4 flat trailer plug on my truck but my trailer plug is also a 4 flat plug but has two brown wires going to one prong. how do i hook them together to make all my lights on trailer work

The 4-wire flat plugs usually have a white (ground), green (right brake/turn) yellow (left brake/turn) and brown (taillights - left and right). If your brake and turn lights work but the taillights don't, check the plugs (trailer and truck sides) for corrosion, and chek both the trailer and truck wiring harnesses for chafed insulation and bare conductors on the brown wires. Likewiae if the taillights work and the brake/turn lights don't, perform the same checks on those wires. And last but not least, be sure that the white wires (truck and trailer) are grounded well to the truck body and trailer frame.

05 Chevy Colorado trailer harness right turn not working

you must check the connection where the truck harness meets the added trailer harness on the truck itself not the trailer harness.

We need to know the color code on the wires to hook up tail lights to a trailer.

4 way flat molded connectors allow basic hookup for three lighting functions; right turn signal / stop light (green), left turn signal / stop light (yellow), taillight / license / side marker (brown) and a ground (white).brownwire will run both right and left side markers

I would first check for a bad ground to the frame of the trailer and check the ground wire from the truck to the trailer

When I hook up to a trailer, the left turn signal and the left brake light won't work. I have tried several trailers with the same results. I own a 2003 gmc 3/4 ton pickup. I have two places to connect the...

it sounds like either the wires controling the left brake light and turn signal are borken or loose on your truck. or there could be a problem with the ground for the trailer hookup. you should take a volt meter and then have someone put the brake on and test at the hook on the truck side to see if you are getting any voltage there and do the same thing with the turn signal. if you do not have any voltage there you need to trace the wires back up into the truck to find where you do have voltage . you may find a broken wire as you go. How many wires are there in your trailer hook up?

I installed a 4 wire trailer wiring harness on a utility trailer. Now when I try the left or right turn signal, both of the tail lights blink on the trailer. What could the problem be?

You have both signal lights interconnected. Disconnect it, and make sure that the two wires is allocated for each side. Then, connect the two wires to the right signal light of your truck. One for the ground, and the other wire for right signal lightbulb. Then, repeat the process for the left signal light. Use male and female connector, for easy disengagement
of your truck and the trailer.

I hooked up my trailer lights everything works but my taillight

If you have access to a digital multimeter or test light, check if there is power going to the plug, if there is then maybe the trailer plug and the truck plug dont match up
