I can't find where the return line on the fuel system is going. only 1 line comes up to the front where the mechanical fuel pump is located. I can't get fuel to the carb.

on a carcureted engine there is no return line, to check fuel delivery disconnect the fuel line at the carb and turn the engine over, these run at low pressure, like 4lbs

mcdevito75 here, I think you mean the acclerator pump in the carb, here"s how to check it, Operate the gas pedal linkage from the carb itself and at same time look into carb. see a straem of gas each timeyou operate the gas pedal linkage, if not check for fuel at the carb. You could also have a dirty gas filter or a problem with the ignition system, check for spark at plugs.

My Toyota 1985 has high fuel consumption i have

Did you take it apart. That is my definition of cleaning. Is the float sinking and allowing too much fuel to enter from the fuel bowl. I hope it's not fuel injected because, I only know what you tell me. Most vehicles from 84 on have no carb.

The problem may be the gas that sat in the carburator. Gas goes bad faster in smaller quantities. Have a look inside to see if you have "gummed" up passages, or jets. Don't forget to change the fuel filter.
Good luck. (I have an 89, and it's a great truck, 300k miles on it.)

Won't start

Check for fuel pressure at carb by placing a pressure gauge between the carb and fuel line . Check fuel delivery by putting a long hose connected to fuel line at carb and cranking. If you have pressure below 4lbs or if you get poor delivery cranking (with hose in a can or jar to measure amount) than you have either a bad pump or filter. If engine starts when you pour a small amount of fuel into it, and delivery and pressure was good, then there is a carb problem. When working on older vehicles, always make sure that fuel line from tank is not rusted and leaking.

88 Toy, 22R Carb, hard cold start

in your carburetor there is a priming passage. look in there with the air cleaner out and pump the butterfly it should squirt gas. if it doesn't then you need to open the top part of the carb and clean the hole with a hair clip. if this is not the problem it will be the choke but I'm 70 percent that this is the problem.

1985 Toyota pickup 22r non cali emissions ( Drives then dies no fuel in carb)

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the rubber fuel lines being old and cracked. The hoses would warm up and fuel would squirt out of the cracks. I had to replace three fuel line hoses and it has been running great ever since. Good luck.
