Thanks for the reply. Yeah i have let the car run for about 15 min and the fan never kicked on. So you know, This is what i have done to it and how i got to this point. It all started by the car over heating. The radiator crack along the top. I replaced the radiator, radiator cap, themistat, fan relay and the tempeture controller in the back of the block. And still i let it run for 15 mins and the fan never kicked on but it will turn on if i turn the airconditioner on. It also blows hot air if the heat is on and cold air if the airconditioner is on. The temp gauge is busted so i am at a disadvanted. Hopefully this has helped.

    Well it is fixed. I changed out the temperature switch and filled back with coolent. After 25 mins the fans kicked on and all is good.

    thank you so much for your help.

    Now the valve cover gasket is leaking lol

    i can get that done though

Well...it will really help us if you have a temperature gauge because we would not know what is the radiator water temperature.

but anyway...

try these steps...

first check if there is power(12V) to your relay. i mean power that will go to the fan as the relay is energize.

you have 4 pins in the relay. two is for energizing it . and two for the contact that will close once the relay is energized.

jump these pins for the contact, your fan should run. if it did not and there is power, then there is no connection from your relay to your fan.

if it would run, then we can trace the other two pins.

one pin should be directly connected to +12.

test this by using your volt meter.

the the other pin should be connected to your temperature controller that should give negative signal once the engine is hot. the temperature controller should short it out with the engine block which is a source of negative signal.

that should complete the circuit and should energize the relay that would in turn run the fAN,...

i hope you can follow all the tests...

Hi,
I dont believe so. Your cooling fan kicks on by a signal from the temperature sensor. The signal goes to the PCM which in turn sends a voltage to activate a relay which powers up the fan. Most fans are 2 speed and when the A/C is used, a second relay kicks the fan into high gear. So, your fan should run at some point after the engine reaches/exceeds operating temperature regardless of if your A/C is on or not. If it does not come on, check your relays first. (you can swap them around to check them) and then your temp. sensor. You can apply direct voltage to the fan itself to check that the fan motor is working. Hope that helps!

With it just stalled you need to isolate the problem to fuel spark or compression to know that to do next. no spark inghtion modules fail. no fuel fuel filters and fuel pumps fail. Compression cooling system problems ( no fan) raditor coolant low) therostate stuck clossed. find something and reply and I'll be glad to respond to your post.

Fans just a/c,but when you turn off a/c fans stop working.98 corolla


fans are controlled by the water temp sensor, automatically come on with ac just wait 15 min see if when it gets just past normal operating temp they kick on,, check relays and fuses..

Try checking any fuses and relays related to the cooling fans, replace the relays if your not sure if they are bad. The testing on that may be a little involved as there are a number of things that factor in controlling those fans and when they turn on and off. may be in cheaper for you to just have it diagnosed at a reputable repair shop.

Radiator fan runs after car is turned off. Only occurs when A/C is run for more than 10-15 min. Shuts off after a few minutes, but is concerning.


That is nothing to worry about the fan remains running after the vehicle shuts off in order for the engine to cool down. Once the motor cools down sensors trigger the fan to shut it off.

Radiator fan runs when engine is off


some cars do start up the fan when turned off after they have been driven. as long as it is not starting when the engine is cold there is nothing to worry about. the reason it took 15 mins to shut off is that with the engine not running the water is not being pumped
round the engine thus cooling faster. hope this helps
