Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. There are many things that can cause your check engine light to come on. When it does come on, this means the computer has detected a problem with the vehicle. Every car has this system. Anytime it is on, you can usually get a code number off the computer scan. The hookup is under the dash in most cars. You can buy a cheap one for around 50 dollars at most auto part stores. If you do buy one, you may need to find what each code means. If you don't own one or you can't get to one, you can take it to Autozone or Advanced Auto Parts to get your vehicle scanned. Most places do not charge for the scan. Autozone and Advanced Auto Parts do not charge when your check engine light is on. They will be able to scan it for you and give you the codes. They will let you know what it says and what parts you will need as well. if you ask. If your check engine light is flashing, this means there may be internal engine failure. If this is your case, get it scanned as soon as possible. The longer you go with the light on, the greater the chance you have to make the problem worse. Some of the newer vehicles has this system already built in. You will need to know sequence though, to make the code appear. You need to find out where the oil is leaking before you can fix it. Any ideas?

I always have shortage of oil in my engine after 4 week after servicing or changing my engine oil

you need to check engine leakage or otherwise you have a problem in your engine, probably the engine oil enter the combustion chamber and mix with gasoline, which result from light to heavy smoke from your tailpipe especially when you press the gas pedal, observe thorouhly..hoping it can help you to identify your problem..

I am facing problem in my Corolla 2000 that whenever i cover long distance approx 400km,i face a shortage of engine oil,i went to my mechanic and he advice me to change the ring sets and the problem will...

If you have no visible external leaks and the venting system on it has been checked then I'd go with your mechanics evaluation, especially if you see smoke from the tailpipe. Replacing piston rings is very expensive and to do that job correctly, you need to remove the engine from the car and completely disassemble it. Not only rings need to be changed but connecting rod bearings and valve guide seals, The job is very expensive and often it's so close to what an already rebuilt one costs that often most people either get a rebuilt or scrapyard engine, or buy another vehicle.
All three items I mentioned can cause excessive oil consumption and are "wear items".
You mentioned a shortage but did not mention how much you actually use. If you use a quart or less in that distance you could try using a viscosity index improber such as lucas engine treatment. Often that will help slow oil consumption. (it's an expensive additive but is one of just a few taht actually works)
Good Luck

EPC, Electronic Stability, Check Engine light

do they stay on longer than a few seconds?
If so, could be a relay, wiring shortage....take it to your local autozone or auto store, normally they will scan your OBD II and see what the codes are...for free....that will help you determine why the check engine light is on.

Oil pressure light on and knocking noise now

The light comes on when the oil pressure is too low, when the sending unit is bad, and, if you have too much oil in the engine and it whips the oil so much that the oil pump cannot pull the oil in since it is mainly bubbles

The knocking sound comes from a shortage of oil to he bearings, tapping comes from the valve train under the rocker cover (cylinder head).

Make sure you haven't lost any oil & that it isn't overfull and correct that if needed. Beyond what I've mentioned, you would be looking at the oil pump needing to be replaced or major engine repair if the bearings have spun or worn excessively.

good luck

Blowing light smoke and burnning engine oil

Blue smoke is usually oil burnig related. White smoke is due to coolant mixing with the oil. (Head gasket leak) You should have the coolant system pressurized by a garage to see if your system holds pressure. This test will tell a lot. Coolant in the oil is a big problem.

The piston rings were a good idea but not necessarily a problem. The white smoke could be from a bad head gasket, cracked head or cracked block.
