disconnected fuel line between tank and fuel filter. Could there be a problem with the wires of the sending unit. Got current up to where it connects to sending unit wires.

The sending unit has a 4 prong connection and only one of them is hot (purple wire). Didn't want to drop tank again but what else to do.

HI there! So you have electricity at the pigtail going into the fuel pump? Is it a 2 wire pigtail (one hot and one ground wire)? I had a similar problem where i had power but no fuel. Are you sure no fuel is being pumped from the tank? It could be the EFI main relay that controls the injectors. I replaces all the fuel pump components and relays before I realized that it was the relay for the injectors.

Ah yes. The sending unit could be faulty. Is the sending unit seperate from the pump on your car? Sometimes they are one unit and others they are 2 different components. You can use a multimeter to find out if the sending unit is bad.

Do you have a manual? If you have one and a miltimeter it will show you how test those prongs for resistance (ohms) and voltage range. That will tell you whether or not it is faulty.

I forgot to mention the fuel filter. If it is clogged and dirty there wont be enough fuel flow to start the engine or keep it running.

    Are you still there?

96 Buick Park Avenue short circuit problem?

I suspect you have a bad ground connection. It could be at the battery, at the engine, or elsewhere. You are correct, you should not read 12v on both sides of the fuel pump. One side should be at chassis/ground.

Where is the fuel pump located in a 1994 buick century

It is inside your fuel tank. In order to replace it you will have to remove your gas tank because it is mounted on the top side of your tank.

Fuel pump is in the tank, fuel filter is along the subframe rail by the rear wheels, either left or right side.

Not enough fuel pressure.
Hopefully, it might be a clogged fuel filter, start there... replace it. ($9 AutoZone).
Could also be fuel pump or the fuel pressure valve is stuck open, allowing fuel to drain back to the gas tank (no fuel in line).

How do i change a fuelpump in my 1997 Buick

Most modern cars have the fuel pump inside the gas tank, so it is not at all a do-it-yourself job. However, you could go to the library or auto parts store and read the Chilton's manual to make sure.
