Welcome to Fixya

Sound like you have a wiring problem. Please see below trobuleshooting:

  • 1 Check for quick visual clues. This can be torn surrounds, holes or tears in the cone, or no incursion/excursion of the speaker itself. If there's an ohm meter available, test the connections, first from the speaker binding posts, then from the cable lengths.

  • 2 Patch cone holes of tears with a little rubber cement or silicon caulk. Torn surrounds can be replaced, but the speaker must be removed from the vehicle first.
  • 3 Reverse the speaker leads. This is done by detaching the RCA cables from the head unit or amp and switching them, left to right. If there's room to switch the wires in a rear deck, switch the wires at the speaker itself. If there's still no sound, the problem is the speaker. If there is sound, the problem is the cable.
  • 4 Remove the non-sounding speaker, and attach another speaker to the speaker wires. If there's sound, the speaker is bad.
  • 5 Replace the non-working speaker. In all but expensive car sound systems, replacing the speaker is no more expensive than repairing it.

  • Thank you for using Fixya!

a bad antenna tops list. or the cable fell off to it?
    got static with volume up?
    sure.
if you remove the ant. jack and put finger on the hot pin inside
you will become a human antenna, and pickup close local stations
or use a length of any wire, to put there and get lots of stations
if that works the radio is ok and antenna is bad.
    we do this bench testing.

Radio in 2003 jeep grand cherokee does not play cd's. it plays the radio stations, volume works, but it does not eject the cd or even recognize it .

you can look for a radio shop to repair the cd player it would be cheaper to install a aftermarket radio they do have kits if you have steering wheel controls

I had a new computer installed in my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee and now the radio doesn't work. All I get is static. I can change stations and the clock still works.

Sounds like the installer may have unplugged your antenna wire from the antenna, which is close by the computer and maybe was accidentally unplugged. Have it checked out.

Common problem... first, the antenna isn't connected directly to the radio... sometimes the junction points will crack and separate... second, sometimes the radios, radio tuner will go bad. if you have a Cherokee (not a Grand Cherokee) check you passenger side kick panel (location of a common antenna connection weak point) . Some genius placed a spring in the connection... just pull the spring out, reconnect and tape the connection together... Let me know if this helped at all... if the connections are all good, you will have to replace the radio... but, from what you described you wont have to...
