Question about Audi A4

1 Answer

Just bought a 1997 A4. They sunroof opens and closes by itself. More noteably when riding on rough roads. I am fairly sure it is in the swith/dial in the roof console. Any ideas? How to fix?

Sunroof won't open/close

Try this!!! There is a Tilt button and a seperate open/close button I belive . try holding the Tilt button up while holding the open/close button up also at the same time.WHILE THE CAR IS ON!!. Then turn your car off while still holding the buttons up. Then turn your car on again and should work un its totally fried from the rain. What this does is it re-programs your sunroof to work again. Hope this works

Manual close for sunroof

You can try cleaning and lubricating the runners. The sunroof will open as soon as it is obstructed, eg. A childs arm in the way of closing. The problem here is that you can hear the motor running, wich indicates a broken cable, or a stripped plastic gear.

Sunroof spontaneously opens to vent

Loose wire or bad switch. If the switch is loose or floppy at all it's bad. Can you make it happen by tapping or banging the switch with your hand? Or does it happen on rough roads?

Open sunroof that will not close.

you can open and close you sunroof "manually" remove the plastic cover next to your sunroof and dome light buttons (above your rearview mirror) there is an allen wrench stored inside... insert the wrench into the corresponding hole and you can close or open you sunroof by turning the wrench

Manual close for sunroof

My Audi A4 has a manual crank spot under a flip cover just in front of the roof on the ceiling. If your roof is opening randomly, it may be just bent contacts for the switch (this is known on the A4). Remove the sunroof switch from the headliner, take the switch itself off the mount, and you'll see the contacts underneath. Bend them more vertical so they can contact the switch knob more easily, and try it out. This fixes the problem on the A4 and your Golf likely has a similar design.
