Question about 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 L 6 Cylinder engine. The radiator fan will not turn on even when the temp gauge is showing that it has gone 3/4 across (it is beyond the midpoint). The fan relay has been changed. The radiator fan motor has been pulled and checked by connecting it directly to battery, it works. The thermostat has been changed to a new one. The radiator fan fuse has been changed to a new one. Why won't it work?

The computer gets a signal from the engine temp sensor that the fan is needed, and grounds the fan relay to provide power to the fan.

Check your radiator for external and internal obstructions (leaves, bugs etc on the a/c condenser or leaves between the condenser and radiator, rust or calcium deposits inside the radiator core all cause loss of heat transfer)
Also make sure that the system is full and that the electric fan and the clutch fan are operating properly. (electric fan should come on just above normal operating temp and clutch fan should not be "freewheeling" above temp either)
Note: If you need to have the radiator flushed, do it separately from the engine. especially the inline 6 and 4 engines rust up inside and if the system is flushed with the radiator connected, the debris will pack up inside it and actually can worsen the condition.

2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo overheats when vehicle sits idling. Cools down when i take off and drive down the road...??? Please help. thanks

Many cars have a thermoswitch threaded into the radiator that activates the fans when engine exceedes normal optimum opperating temp. This sensor may have failed , or one of the 2 wires that go to it may have come unpluged or broken

99 cherokee laredo over heating

You can test the system by disconnecting the engine temp sensor that turns on the fan, the engine computer will go into failure mode and turn on the cooling fan, if the fan does not run check for voltage at the fan with a 12 volt test lite..
