My 2002 Mitsubishi Montero Sport makes a high pitched humming noise when in reverse backing up. Does not make it when in gear driving.

If coming from transmission may not be a real issue. If coming from rear of car, likely a rear brake issue.

I have a high pitched whine when accelerating coming from behind the area where the timing chain is. took it to a garage and they didn't know what it might be. any ideas? the vehicle has over 120,000...

If the noise started after the new belt was installed then chances are the timing belt is too tight. This "singing" would be noticeable immediately and will change pitch with rpm's. If this is not the case then it could be a bearing on one of the timing belt idler pullies.

I have a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer and it is making a loud humming noise coming from the rear end. What could that be making the noise?

ok it could be two things. it could be rear wheel bearings or a rear diff. If its a high pitch wine then its worn gears in your differential. its needs serviced or replaced. If it more of a rumbling or grinding hum, coming only from one side or both) then there are bad wheel bearings.

High Pitched noise

I had a high pitch noise, didn't sound like it came from the "underside". Turns out it was one of fans that had little chips in the blades? My Audi dealer replaced it, and it's fine now.
