Question about 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan

1 Answer

I want to replace the passenger side rear tail light assembly. How do I remove the electrical connector from the assembly? It looks like a bayonet type connector. There is a red tab at the end of the connector. Does the red tab come out and if so how? Put it left or right? Do I have to depress or release anything? I am working on a Dodge Grand Caravan 2002, 3/8L V6

per your request enclosed I'll get a picture of the connector . Where or how do I post the picture you want. It would copy to this comment.

  • ciretired Apr 02, 2011

Not exactly but very close. The red tab sticks out both sides of the black connector close to the base as shown. My unit looks a little taller. Facing the tab side the right side of the protruding tab looked like it have a spot for a screwdriver blade to go into so you could slide the red tab out. I tried that and broke the end off. The left side of the red tab has a groove in it.. Didn't want to further break the tab so I am asking the experts.

Thank you .... Got it solved.... The key was that I was pulling/pushing the tab the wrong way. Came out the other way with some fortitude.

    Regards

The red tab is a locktab usually a standard screwdriver and light pressure will allow these to come out far enough to push the tab to unplug the tailight assmbly.A few of them occasionally need to be removed completely then you can access the release tab. Any way you can post a pic so I can see which one it is?

You will see one side has a lip on it that is the direction that the red clip needs to go to be loosened /removed.

Sometimes those tabs are a real pain. After awhile the plastic does become brittle and they will break Not even real sure why they use them. As far as posting a picture you can upload to a site like photobucket.com then paste the link in here. Glad you got it.

Tail light electrical connectors are fried, i need to replace the connectors cant find them online? help

Call your local junkyards to see if any of them have any Silhouettes in their inventory with tail lights still installed. If they do, remove the tail light that you need, disconnect the connector and examine the connector (both Male AND Female sides) to make sure it's not fried too. On mine, both the male and female pins connected to the green(Ground) wire in the vehicle harness that was corroded.

If it looks good, install the connector and cut the wiring on the vehicle side a foot back from the connector and remove the complete tail light assembly with the connector.

The Female connector is built into top of the Lamp Holder Assembly and since both pins are corroded, the Lamp Holder must be replaced at the same time as the harness side.

Cut the damaged part out of your car leaving enough of your harness to splice the wires together. I soldered mine and covered them each with shrink fit tubing at the joint then wrapped all the junctions with electrician's tape for protection and some water integrity??

By the way, the complete Tail Light Assembly cost me $40.00 and I wound up with a spare left lens!

Hope this helps.

Tail Light Removal on 03 Charade

Daihatsu Charade EL 2003 rear lens removal. Open the tailgate and remove the two bolts securing the lens assembly. Then get a good hold of the lens and pull out. You need to pull out the whole lens assembly since there are three plastic protruding 'clips' on the side along the lens. Please view attached pictures. Then turn the bayonet bulb holder, replace the slide on type bulb and reassemble everything back in place.

Replace toyota sienna brake light - Model 2000

If you are talking about the High Brake Light at the top of the tailgate:

1.) Take out the two Phillips head screws in the lens.
2.) Carefully pry the lens straight back . The gasket sticks to the paint so be careful not to rip the foam gasket.
3.) The bulb is a 921 replacement. Easily found size.

If you're talking about the brake light in the tail light assembly:

The instructions for accessing the tail light are in the Owners Manual. Basically, you have to remove one or two screw/bolts from the inside of the vehicle, then there are two snap type plastic hole/receptacle in the plastic tail light assembly. Be very careful that you pry on the housing in the proper direction, perpendicular to the entry of the snap in connector, or you will break the plastic bayonet or attachment to the lens assembly.

It sounds harder than it really is once you take a look at it. If you have a manual, it will tell you and show you how to get the rear tail lights off easily without breaking any of the plastic connectors. Hope this helps.

I need to replace right brake light bulb in a 1991 Subaru Legacy

If this is a sedan, open the trunk and remove the bulb bracket for the burned out lamp from the rear of the tail light assembly by twisting it about 1/8 turn and then pulling it out. Now you can change the bayonet base lamp by pressing it slightly into the socket and turning it ccw just a small angle and the bulb will sping out. Installation is the reverse.

If this is a wagon, open the rear hatch, and behind the rear light assembly is a louvered plastic grate. Remove the grate by pushing the two plastic latch tabs toward the center of the grate and swing the grate out etc. Now remove the bulb bracket for the burned out lamp from the rear of the tail light assembly by twisting it about 1/8 turn and then pulling it out. Now you can change the bayonet base lamp by pressing it slightly into the socket and turning it ccw just a small angle and the bulb will sping out. Installation is the reverse.
