Question about Dodge Ram 1500

1 Answer

I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500, V8, 360...Lost the Idler Pulley as well as the bolt going down the road. Called around and can not find the bolt for the life of me! Any suggestions? I am going to the junkyards to look for one. But I was wondering if there are any options if one can't be found?

Did you check your fan clutch? If it runs hot running around town, but cools going down the road this could be it. also check radiator for obstructions like bugs or bent fins.

How do u change a frive belt on a 2002 dodge ram

There is usually a diagram under the hood to show you the routing of the belt or you can get an auto parts to give you a diagram. The drive belt runs on what is called a tensioner and this tensioner has a bolt on front of it that you place a socket or specialized tool on. Pull or push the bolt and the spring in the tensioner will move either up or down allowing you to remove the belt and or replace the belt. Hope this helped

Need diagram to install serpentine belt on 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi

There should be a diagram under the hood on the fan shroud or radiator support. If not, let me know and I see if I can find one. For the most part, if the pulleys it rides on are grooved, the belt ribs ride on it, it the pulley is smooth, the back side rides on it. From a picture of the alternator I have, from the passenger side coming up, over the alternator, then down and under the belt tensioner (smooth pulley), then up and over A/C compressor, then down and around P/S pump, up and around water pump, down around crankshaft pulley.

Serpentine belt

rempve the belt again and hand spin the pulleys listening for a loud bearing type noise in one of the pulleys .. you see anything that spins has a bearing in it. the bearing drys out and the pulley gets louder than normall.most time it an idler pulley.
good luck chris

hi, you should find a serp. belt routing diagram on the cross member that supports your radiator. if not- disconnect neg batt terminal for safety. you'll need a long breaker bar metric. as most, if not all fasteners on your ram are in metric. cant remember right size socket, but just go through your metric set and "eyeball"it. once you have the proper socket-detention the belt by pulling breaker bar clockwise. remove old belt. it maybe useful to take a picture of how your old belt is routed with a camera equipped cell phone (if it is still on) so that if you get into trouble, you can look at the picture as a reference point. new serpentine belt install--insert new belt over the cooling fan route under crank pulley-over fan pulley, around p/s pump pulley,up and around a/c comp pulley, under idler pulley, over alternator pulley and finally around tensioner pulley. pull breaker bar clockwise to slip belt past and onto the tensioner pulley. release tension on tensioner. be sure to check tensioner indexing marks located on the tensioner arm this is to make sure the new belt is installed properly. reconnect neg batt cable to terminal-remove any hand tools from engine bay, start engine and observe belt operation. hope this helps!
