Hi, the battery light indicates your alternator is not charging. If you have a voltmeter, check the voltage at the battery with the engine running. If the voltage is less than 14 or you don't have a voltmeter, remove the alternator and have it tested at your local parts chain. Please let me know if you have more questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

I have purchased a brand new battery, alternator, cylanoid, voltage regulator and starter for my 1984 ford f250 pickup, and the battery will not hold a charge

It sounds to me like something is drawing battery power after the ignition switch is turned off. You can determine this by disconnecting the positive battery cable from the battery. Now connect a regular DC test light from the positive terminal of the battery to the cable that you have just removed. If the test light illuminates, you know that something is staying on. Now, with the test light still connected, remove each fuse in the vehicles fuse panel, one at a time, until the light goes off. (there may be more than one fuse panel, check the owners manual) When it does go off, you have just identified the circuit that is staying active. Keep in mind that some vehicles have circuits that stay active for a short time after the ignition has been turned off. E.g. radio memory, dash clock, headlights or dome lights that go off after a certain time. These can cause the test light to illuminate also.

1996 Plymouth breeze .put in used battery runs door light stays on check engine light stays on next day battery dead charged half a hour starts gas gauge moves every time I start it check engine light on...

Check battery and see if it can be fully charged. If there is an indicator on the battery it should be green or measure the voltage with the engine off and see if it is close to 12Vdc. If the battery tests good there could be a problem with the electrical wiring or a bad device that draws current when the car is off. Glove box light gould be on, trunk light stays on etc...

The battery has been replaced but the battery still loses power and runs down once its turned off

it sounds like you have somthing staying powered up hook up battery negitive cable and then use test light on positive lead put clamp on battery positive lead and use the point on the battery if light is on bright then you have somthing staying on like glove light dome lights or even visor lights with lead still hooked up you need to touch the clamp to the point end to power down the timer system usually 20 seconds then pull clamp away from point end while staying connected with battery and cable if you loose that connection you will need to start timer power down again then while someone is keeping the connection pull one fuse at a time and notice if light goes out or dim if it does either then see what that fuse powers and it will tell you what is staying powered

Battery light stays on in 97 gmc

Battery light probably means low output from the alternator. You can have it checked at your local parts store. Hope this helps!
