Car has excessive oil consumption

Manufacturer specs specify one quart for every 3,000 miles. How much is yours using? Engine braking can make that amount go up as well due to the fact that your engine is producing it's highest amount of vacuum during engine braking.

Nissan X-Trail 2.2 Diesel 2001 White smoke coming from exhaust when driving not constant in intervals

White smoke usually indicates low compression pressures. Do a compression test to see if the rings are worn. Check oil consumption too. If the valve stem seals are worn then the engine will use oil too.

2002 nissan altima that starts but has low idea and when i hit the gas there is black smoke.

well black smoke means you are burning up engine oil. low idle means you have less compression. you might want to check your gaskets! does th engine oil level go down after a drive?

Abnormal exhaust smoke

definitely an oil consumption problem. How many miles? Could be worn rings and or valve guides. The oil light on when hot indicates low level or possible or weak oil pump. Check compression for possible head gasket or cracked head. I wouldn't drive it untill diagnosed.

I have a volkswagon 2008 Eos and have been told by the dealer it is normal for it to use oil. Now I hear a knock coming from the exaust. It has 65000 miles on it just out of warranty.

oil consumption of say 1/2 litre in 5.000miles would be normal even 1 litre in 5.000miles would be ok but any thing else is staring to be excessive. Oil consumption is an indication of a problem with the oil control rings and valve stem seals . Add to that your statement of a knock coming from the exhaust I would be inclined to have a compression test done to determine the condition of the engine . I consider 65.000 miles to be a little young for bad oil consumption so with the noise I would suspect a broken ring and a scored bore

OIL CONSUMPTION 2002 4X4 TROOPER.

have an accredited service shop to a wet and dry compression test on the engine
That determines engine condition
have the oil pressure checked using a mechanical gauge and if the pressure is below specs that indicates worn bearings overloading the oil control rings
leaks can be rear main seal or crank shaft seal at the front where the oil is blown away in the slip stream

High mileage car. Low quality Kenyan fuel. Low on

High on mileage means that the engine has done a lot of work, possible that the compression is down, need to check if this is below level, if there is oil used in excess then the engine needs an overhauling subject to the cost estimated.

Cant compromise on bad fuel as this will bring down the power of the engine.
High fule consumption means poor setting so fuel and ignition , check fuel settings- pump calibration and timing.

Smoking from tailpipe

If black smoke then it can be excess fuel and might need a retuning of the engine. If the smoke is bluish then check on the oil consumption of the engine. It will be due to poor oil rings/compression rings that allow the oil to seep through.
so in both cases the smoke is not a healthy sign of the engine and needs attention.

2001 f150 5.4l with 90000 mi smokes on start up and uses oil about three quarts between changes

If it smokes only on start-up and upon acceleration following release of throttle (such as when making a turn) then you might have bad valve seals. However, given the oil consumption you've stated (assuming that there is NO oil leak externally) you need to check for a PVC valve stuck open due to carbon or paraffin build-up. A stuck PVC valve will definitely cause excessive oil consumption and create smoke.

If you find this solution to be helpful, then please take a moment to rate this post. - Thanks.

Car loses oil checked under car no leak checked gaskets and engine no leak my guess its BURNING oil?

Normal oil consumption for a car is about 1 quart per 3,000miles. If you can calculate how much of a quart low you are per oil change you will be able to tell whether your oil consumption is excessive or not.
