Question about Acura CL

Car does not fire straight away after minute or so of heavy gas pedal it will fire and bellow out smoke, when running its very erratic one minute very high revs always trying to pull more then come to a stop it might well try to stall, if it stalls after engine has warmed up it will not start for an hour or so, she also appears to be eating fuel. please help im baffled by this one the only thought i have is that the fuel pump is malfunctioning and heating up causing the issue or and fuel filter. ps it is a rover 216 cabriolet 1.6 k series there is on option on you list for that car

When was last "healthy" tune up. Plugs, wires, all fluids & filters especially fuel filter??? I'd start there and run a good fuel system cleaner through it and avoid cheap gas.

It could be the sign of shorted or overloaded circuits. Some electronic components are able to generate considerable smoke as they fail.

You should hope whatever is generating smoke does fail and break the circuit because if it causes a fire it can be out of control in 2 minutes and wreck your car in around 4 minutes.
It isn't long enough to open the hood and disconnect the battery and then fight the fire and if you get out safely all you will be able to do is get well away and watch it burn.

Smoke from the dash is a warning you should take heed of. Disconnect the battery and call the repair shop straight away and consider yourself very lucky.

2001 chevy prizm jerks when in gear heavy smoke out of exghuast


It will help Matt if you would have said what color the smoke is thats coming out the tailpipe. White heavy smoke will be antifreeze getting in the combustion chamber.Could be head gasket,cracked or warped head.Black smoke would be fuel system pumping gas in making it run rich,And not able to burn the fuel completly.

Too much gas. Maybe the fuel pressure regulator has failed. Pull off the vacuum hose to the regulator-if any evidence of gas in the vacuum line, regulator is bad-diaphragm has ruptured and letting in extra gas to engine through the vacuum line.
If that is good, no gas in vacuum line, have the fuel pressure checked. Still possible the regulator is not right.
Watch the pattern of gas out the bottom of injectors while the engine is cranked. Should see a fine mist cone pattern spraying out from the injectors. If it is just dripping, injectors may be clogged.

Keeps overheating and blowing white bellows of smoke out the muffler


White smoke is a sure sign of a blown head gasket.
Haven't you noticed the loss of coolant?
To be absolutely sure, you run a cooling system pressure test.
Basically you replace the radiator cap with a pump and gauge.
You pump it up over the cap rating, and watch for a few minutes to be sure it holds pressure.
A head gasket leak will usually not hold pressure.
Then you try it with the engine on.
When you rev it, that produces the maximum heat and pressure, so a leak will cause the gauge to oscillate every time the leaking cylinder fires.

Every so often or especially when it rains heavy my car looses power while driving and cuts out when i loose speed. it will start again straight away but will cut out again instantly blowing a lot of smoke...


unsure if your engine model is same as ours here,but rain or heavy dampness usually shows up leakage in sparkplug wires and insulators.They give this exact problem.this model here has long extended rubber/plastic insulators that run through the valve cover to the sparkplugs.If the sparkplugs havent been replaced for a while(some of these have platimun or iridium plugs that should run 60-100,000km).the current needed to fire them increases.it will always take the easiest pathway to earth,and often it is through the side of these long insulators.Itg will be hard to see as the hole is only pin sized but will have a small build up of black carbon around the hole.'Also when the fault is evident,you should be able to lift the bonnet and hear little crack sounds as they leak and the engine will misfire when this occur.Hence the loss of power,the plugs wont be firing each time that they leak.
A new set of sparplugs and leads should fix this.If it is the direct fire model that has an individual coil over each sparkplug,you can purchase the insulators separately.The coils should be fine or they would fault in any weather.Hope this helps you

thats because the car is not at operating temperature.you will get a slight drop in power and drivability until its warm.do not try to use any more than 1/3rd gas pedal until its warm anyway.your car has an automatic cold start device (choke)that operates when the car is cold.

dont think cat is issue cat's only lower emmisions sounds like if u have and accelerator cable binded which is causing this or could be tps sensor faulty ts can cause throttlebody to malfunction
