Cananyone help me to find the ignition barrel tailpiece for this car? Please don't say salvage yards, they are few and far between here.
If I had the tailpiece I could put my steering column back together and get the car back on the road. As it sits now it is a big anchor. Thanks

the ignition barrel/key are so worn they are'nt engaging properly when turning off put a slight downwards pressure as turning key this may engage the key and barrel but sounds like need a new key if thats worn smooth or a new barrel if key is sharp
to remove you ignition barrel is a simple process you need to remover the steering column covers from around the ignition switch.
there is a small hole located in the ignition barrel you will need to gentle push and hold an Allen key in the hole and rotate the key to the accessories the barrel should be come lose and gentle be pulled out.
please note that if the internal locking mech is not correctly depressed you will not be able to remove the barrel.
also if you have lost you key you will not be ale to remove the ignition barrel and will need to get a lock smith to rplace the whole thing witch can cost from $120 up to $250 depending on the locksmith
replace the whole ignition barrel with new key and get key programmed by dealer
can remove barrel and key by removing steering column covers turn ignition to on position and with small shank screw driver push in hole in outer top rear section of barrel assembly then pull out ignition lock barrel with key in it. fit new lock barrel and key, program new key into system and can get door lock barrels coded to suit new key or get code for old key and cut new key so it fits mechanical locks on the rest of the vehicle (just wont turn in ignition) 2 keys for vehicle.
on the edge of the ignition barrel there is a little hole, you must turn the ignition to the first click and insert i 1.2 mm rod (drill bit)about an inch down into the lock and puch back the ident then pull the key and barrel out together.
their is a small button to press in on the side of the switch which holds it in the barrel. Press it in with a small screw driver but the button will only press in when the key is in the ignition. Just hold it in while pulling out the old switch from the barrel same procedure to replace.
it is better to buy a new ignition barrel.it takes a special socket to get the screws out, once the screws are out they do not need to be replaced.buy new barrel,disconnect negative battery cable,disconnect wires from barrel assembly, remove barrel from colum. first take vin# to dealership parts department to get correct barrel assembly, the keys with new assembly will fit doors and trunk
