1994 Chev Cavalier - engine light comes on randomly

One cause of the light to come on randomly is a loose gas cap. If it's not replaced tightly (turned until it clicks three or four times) it throws the light on. It's one thing to check anyway.

Are there fault code numbers for a 1996 Chev Cavalier. The check engine light is on and I was told by turming the key on and off three times within 10 seconds wpould reveal a fault code number. Tryed it -...

Some local Parts Stores will "pull" the code for free. If not you either pay someone, or buy the tools & books to do it yourself. If you choose to do it yourself then you should buy a $25 Repair Manual at the locals Parts Store or go to the Dealer for alot more, & read about the repairs before you buy or do anything else.

Serpentine belt tensioner will not tighten

If the tensioner will not keep the belt tight then the tensioner is bad and will need to be replaced. The spring on the inside will loose it's tension over time.

Voltage intermittent, engine missing at all speeds, affect auto trans. shifting, kills hot or cold

The charging system, pedal, and sensors have been checked. The trans. problem and missing problems were the original problems and when my mechanic finally sent me to Chev. none of the problems " choose to show themselves." I should know on Mon. if my mechanic has solved the problems with the greater number of symptoms. Keep me in your files. More later-  Bill
