The car's computer is doing exactly what it's programmed to do.
It's called Fuel Cutoff Rev Limiter and it's there to protect your engine.
The stock programming for an 01 GP is cutoff 5950 rpm resume 5925 in gear, cutoff 4000 rpm resume 3500 in reverse and cutoff 4005 rpm resume 4004 in park and neutral. (You didn't say you were in gear. Please don't do four grand in reverse.) The reason they're designed to do this is to prevent lifter float and valve dammage. You can have this programming changed by a tuning shop but, I wouldn't recommend it.

Why does my 2001 Chrysler Town and Country 3.3L cut out at ~4000 rpm?

Probably a dirty fuel filter restricting the delivery of fuel to the engine.

Possible causes of 3,400 to 4,000 rpm engine cut-out

The speed buffer is bad. Older cars had these buffer modules out side the engine control module(ECM) Pre 90's. Newer cars have them built into the ECM. The buffer digitizes the analog signal sent from the speed sensor. This is the reason your car cuts out at 4000 rpm's. It's not recieving a signal from the speed sensor and thinks it's still in park.

Will not excelerate past 4000 rpm

IF you have a carby then take it apart and clean it out as all the throats are not working properly including the accelerator pump.

When accelerating fast the engine cuts out suddenly then returns to normal multiple times. If I try to accelerate at a lower pace then it works fine. It feels like an electronic problem

Engine ECU is provided with a high RPM ignition cut off. Perhaps that is what is confusing you. When you accelerate at a fast rate, probably you get higher RPM's and the ECU cuts the ignition to protect the engine from damage.

Pathfinder "cuts out" at 2,300 rpm

Replace your MAF, its a little pricey around $280.00 or so but this will clear the code but make sure you have the ECM reprogrammed to perform a "learning" sequence since sometimes the code will not clear even though the vehicle will run like new. This reprogramming will most likely have to be a dealer performed procedure.

if vechicle idle fine but cut out off when you accelerate, could have restricted stopped up fuel filter or faulty tps sensor if so you will see check engine light flashing.
