Turbo not work - 2000 Volkswagen Beetle

The longer you drive your car with a blown turbo, the more damage the engine will have and therefore the more costly it will be to repair. Although the car will move with a blown turbo, it would be far more preferable to stop driving it and have the car taken to the garage to have the turbo repaired or a replacement installed. start with the basics does it need a new fuel or air filtre you do not mention what type of hill you are trying to climb is it off road on road are you keeping the turbo working ie the turbo will not be effective below a certine rev so if you change gear and the revs fall below the piont were the turbo should kick in then the turbo will not work if all is right with previous could be a poor turbo or a leak in turbo system

What is a twin turbo automatic? are you talking about the engine or the transmission, what is bad and what are you trying to find out will fit?

The wastegate controls the turbo. It is connected to the turbo and usually works on vacuum. If there is no vacuum or the wastegate is b/o the turbo will not work properly. There is an arm that goes from the wastegate to the turbo controlling the amount of exhaust going to spin the turbo. Check to see if this arm is seized or if it moves . Check with the engine running to see if it moves when a friend gives the enging quick gas pedal. Be carefull not to get hurt.

The gauge is working fine, the turbo will not kick in untill the engine is spinning fast enough, as the turbo is propelled by exaughst from the engine. So, you can drive around normal and never use the turbo, and climb in the gas and spool the turbo up, what you are noticing is called turbo lag, which is the biggest down fall when compaired to superchargers!

Hello, I am a Saab technician from upstate new york. It sounds to me that the turbo wastegate rod may be seized to the turbo control valve. The easiest way to try to fix this is to spray penetrating oil on the turbo valve/ wastegate rod and work it back and forth with a pry bar. Many times u can also heat this up with a torch and pray. If those two things don't work than the turbo valve itself is seized into the guide hole machined into the turbo. good luck.

if you can take off the air hose on either side of the turbo. check if the blades still spin. if its damaged in any way. it won't spin properly. time to replace or rebuild turbo.
