I have a 1991 toyota corolla that seems to use gas in one day. i pay at least $20 a day fulling up the tank. i was wondering what the problem could be.

The first things to check are the air filter and the oxygen sensor, which are regular maitenance items and can cause your exact problem. Make sure that you do not have any vacuum leaks. If changing/checking these items does not solve your issue, then the following sensors may also be the problem: Throttle Position Sensor, Air Intake Temperature Sensor, Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor. Make sure your tires are properly inflated and that the brakes are not dragging, icluding the emergency hand brake. If nothing else seems to help, check the fuel rail pressure to insure proper operation of the fuel pressure regulator.

You need to do a compression test on the engine cylinders. It appears one of the cylinders is not firing and dragging the rest of the engine down in power. The compression test will show if one of the cylinders has a problem.
