Question about 1996 Cadillac DeVille
You don't have the switch between the metal prongs of the trunk latch. As that latch goes
up or down, it either pulls the switch up or pushes it down. Depending on the way the
switch is set the next time it changes the direction the worm gear moves. You have to disassemble the unit. You'll see a long plastic tube that will lead to the worm gear. It will
be filled with a lot of lube. You'll need to use a long thin screw driver or maybe a coat
hanger wire. You have to manually move the worm gear to raise the latch so that you
can get the switch inside the metal prongs. The first time I did this it took me about 45 minutes
of studying the unit. The second time I replaced the corroded switch it took me about
30 minutes to remember the trick. Fortunately, if you study the various pieces they only
really fit one way. I'm assuming you bought a replacement switch for the one that gets corroded. They cost about $35. I lubed all the electrical connections of the wiring harness with dialetic (?) cream, filled those little holes, and covered with electrical tape. I hope you don't mean you
bought a whole new motor. Hope this helps.
