Question about Ford Escape

Just a THANK YOU and GOD BLESS YOU to macvernal for his very recent advice on my 2003 Ford Escape cruise control problem. I took off the "hood" over the front of the engine today and....LO and BEHOLD.....the cable disconnected from the "nipple"as I will call it. Also, there was NO flat spot on the control arm, but the 1 1/2" or so plastic part at the end of the cable is worn, causing it disconnect. And this supposedly was a NEW part installed last September!!!!! I doubt it very much. Feel like calling my local TV news consumer help and let them know what Ford tried to do...sell me a new throttle body for $400 + labor and most likely replacing the new plastic end w/the original at a cost of over $200 no doubt because I refused all their service recommendations a couple of years ago!!!!! SHAME ON FORD!!!!! THANK YOU AGAIN AND ALL THE BEST!!!!!

That is what dealers do

They will not diagnose any drivability problem
or check light issue,until the after you pay them on
three different visits for other services

Everyone---look at your in & out mileage
They never road test a vehicle for drivablity
issues
No wonder they don't repair much

NO ONE EVER HAS TO GO TO A DEALER --EVER

They have nothing special to offer

Federal Laws allow you to work on your own car
or go to any repair shop

Where is the fuse for cruise control in 2012 ford escape


There isn't one. The cruise control is a module/computer which is controlled by the ECM. This one has to go on a scanner to see what's wrong. Code readers don't read the cruise.

03 Escape radio volume raises by itself. What could be the problem ?


Assuming your truck has cruise control, this has been a common thing with these vehicles. The radio's volume is designed to increase if the vehicle's Body Control Module sensed that:
-you rolled a window down
-you accelerated
Ford's recommended repair is to reprogram the BCM. Runs about $90-120 at most dealers.

Faulty Deactivation Switch for Cruise Control


No coincidence Pal. That cutout switch is part of the brake light switch and is easy to replace. It just screws into a bracket at the brake pedal lever and has a jamb nut on it to lock in position. Just get one from a parts store and replace it yourself.

My 2003 Ford Escape XLT had no cruise control a couple of years ago.....sometime after I took it to a local Ford dealer for other repairs...ACI replacement...and refused recommended brake replacement. ...


Is the vehicle a four cylinder or V6, either way if what they stated to you is indeed the only problem, there are a few Mcgyver options open to you for far less than what they quoted. The lever itself is only a metal arm with a protruding ball type fitting for the cable. The leftmost cable is for the cruise control. I take it the bushing on the cable is worn or the rod itself has the lip damaged. Either way from in the hood snap the accelerator linkage a couple of times and watch how the cable comes off. A small tie strap between the cable and the end of the rod will probably solve your woesmacvernal.jpg

Replace on/off cruise control switch on a 2005 Escape


If it's located in the shifter handle it just pops out. carefully pry off the cover then you can access the switch

If the cruise lamp comes on and the cruise does not set i would advise inspecting the cruise cable and make certain it is not broken, if ok the the servo has likely failed.

The cruise control on my 2001 ford escape doesn't function at all. Pressing any button to even turn it on yields no results. Any ideas as to why it won't respond?

I had the exact same problem on my 2002 Escape. If you remove the engine cover (3 bolts), you will see where the cruise control links to the the throttle body. If your problem is the same as mine, you will see that it is not connected. I believe it is intended to snap on, but it just doesn't stay. I temporarily snapped it in and wrapped electrical tape to prevent it from unsnapping. Worked like a charm.

Cruise control quit working


The tip that connects the accelerator cable to your throttle for the cruise control may be broken. I have had that problem before. The light won't come on cause your cruise isn't engaged
