Question about Volkswagen Passat

2 Answers

I went to an autozone to find the reason why the check engine light came on in my 1998 volkswagen passat. The diagnostic thing said that it was a manufacturer control fuel air metering. What are the risk of letting this go on too long and how long is too long? I also need to know the estimated cost of getting this repaired if possible.

Letting it go for any length of time is going to cyst you in fuel $$$, possible stalling or worse yet quitting altogether. To give you a ballpark estimate - we need the EXACT code that you got from Autozone.

From your description, it sounds like a faulty mass airflow meter on the air inlet between the filter box and the inlet manifold. here in britain, this part can cost anywhere between £30 and £90 ($50 to $150) depending on engine type and size, and if you use original VW parts or aftermarket.

a faulty air flow meter should not actually cause damage to the car, but it can make a huge difference to power, fuel economy, and emission levels, so i would recommend getting it fixed as soon as possible. ask autozone for a quote for to repair, but also ask them to clarify exactly what the problem is, and which parts are at fault so you can ask for prices of the parts yourself at other motor factors.

when you know what parts are needed, feel free to ask for detailed fitting instructions as air flow meters (if it is this) are very easy to replace

I was in traffic and my 99 VW Passat all of sudden started to rumble and shake and the check engine light came on. What could this be?

yes, that is called a "check eng" light, this may have came on for many different reasons, low eng oil level, low eng. oil pressure, eng. may be misfireing, eng. may be overheating etc. many things can cause this. get hold of a diagnostic scanner and scan for codes. or take it to any shop. theyll scan for you

Check engine light on a 2002 passat

First find out how to reset the light, many vehicle automatically have this programmed to come on at every 5,000 miles to remind you to get an oil change. If that doesn't work take it to autozone and have them put the diagnostic tester on it and give you the error code, it's free, and this may give ou an explination.
