If they didn't line up timing chain correctly it won't run , or if they installed distributor wrong ,or plug wires are not in proper firing order. same problem , need to ask the mechanic how he installed each.

Sounds like too much fuel, could be a leaking injector, faulty pressure regulator, or blockage of air intake. Did you replace the injectors and pressure regulator when you worked on the throttle body ? Can you see normal fuel spray on both injectors when the engine is running ?

Unfortunately this seems to be a not unheard of problem with the 2.8. I'm NOT saying however, they are all a "ticking time bomb" ready to blow up.

Approx. 20 years ago my wife was driving our 1985 S10 Blazer and it simply quit. No warning, nothing.( I might add she was very good at keeping an eye on the gauges and she said everything was fine and it just quit running.)

I went to the rescue with a set off jumper cables and a tow strap. Tried jump starting and "no go". Tried to turn the engine over by hand and it was obviously stuck (siezed), so we pulled it home.

I bought a whole vehicle (1983 Camaro) with a rebuilt 2.8 V6 and swapped the engine into the Blazer and drove it for another 15 years with no problems.

I also had a 1989 S10 with the 2.8 V6 with well over 100,000 miles and a 1993 S10 with over 200,000 miles and they both ran fine the entire time I owned them.

I talked to a couple of mechanics about this and they both said the 2.8 will, WITHOUT warning, simply seize up. No ticking, no rattling, just seize.

So I guess the options are to either have the engine rebuilt, buy a rebuilt engine, find another used engine, or sell/scrap your truck.

When I bought the Camaro for the engine the body was kinda crusty. I bought the whole car for $500, sold the wheels for $100, and the rest of the car for $100. So I had $300 into a replacement engine. i did the engine swap myself so no labor charge.

Hope this helps.

Rebuilt engine with timing problems

You have it right, the yellow mark is TDC and it's the notch furthest to the left...it e to be set at 15 degrees before TDC, but you have to disconnect the I.A.C sensor to do it.if it's still that far out, you're probably of by a tooth.bring #1 piston to TDC, pull out distributor, turn rotor to #1 on dist cap and put in dist..adjust accordingly. .

Have a 93 stealth r/t twin turbo just had engine rebuilt had been running good for a week then it seems to have lost power and died but looks like it is pushing 14 lbs of boost just sitting getting fuel...

Everytime Ihave come in to a ECU that is failed it is like a light bulb, it either works or doesn't. My first thought is twoards oxygen sensor, these cars will, by design, run rich if an O2 sensor fails. I believe your car has two O2 sensors?

Please let me know,
Thanks,
Tom

Your cylinder head has aged with the rings, if you put a good head on it the rings will blow out within weeks then you will be doing a ring job. You should look into a swap for a rebuilt engine if you want to keep it running. However you could easily get a late 90s Ranger for less than you are going to spend on a rebuilt engine. That way all the parts will be 10 years newer

Replace coils, look at engine wiring harness, in the 90s MB was forced to use biodegradable insulation on the cars that degrade from engine heat.

Where is the thermo time switch located on a 93

First of all, I own the same vehicle. 93 camry xle v6. I have rebuilt the engine, etc. Open the hood. Looking at the engine, it's on the right side under the air intake tube from the air cleaner box, on the top of the intake manifold. There are two sensors threaded (screwed) in side by side and have a connector harness plugged in each of them. The thermal time switch is the sensor located on the inside, toward the engine. Note: Take a close look at the connecters inside grooves. You can tell the difference shape. Good luck.
