Replace your engine coil. The symptoms you are having warrant this. Your ignition coil is malfunctioning.

Do you have cruise control on the vehicle if so its likely shorting out causeing the acceleration and the drain on the battery Try disconnection the connection to it and see if the problem goes away The cruise control module is not a cheap part to buy but you realy don't need it for the vehicle to run so it just depends on how much you want to spend on it

It could be the gas pedel sticking .IT could also be the cable all it takes is one broken strand to make it hang up inside the jacket . Try pulling back on the pedel with your toe and see if the engines slows down . At any rate witch ever sultion works you need to fix this if it sticks in traffic your going to rear end someone

2002 ford taurus gas pedal goes to the floor and getting no acceleration. the pedal itself is loose and won't retract into the up position.

The spring or wire that connects your pedal to the throttle body may broken or damaged. Check under your hood and look at the throttle body (it's the carburetor looking thing). There should be a steel wire connected to it coming from the back of the engine bay. It should connect on the side where you'll see a few springs. If nothing looks broken there, turn the part of the throttle body connected to the spring and wire. If it revs up when you move it, then the cable could be broken somewhere between there and the gas pedal.

Alternatively, the linkage on the pedal could have been disconnected some how. Check behind and above the gas pedal to see if eveything is connected properly.

If I accelerate smoothly, no problem. If I need to...

something electrical, ignition control module, coil, or ecu check the ICM and coil first, as they are the least expensive, and the most likely culprits. auto zone checks them as long as they are removed first.

2007 with gas engine will not rev up when pressing accelerator and sputters when idling. Fuel pump and filter are OK

Check the throttle... If i am not mistaken it could be an electronic instead of cable operated. Check pedal rheostat and possible throttle motor.
