Should'nt be over 1 hr,Labor Most shops charge a 1 hr. min. Good luck to you, As for price it depends on the hourly rate your shop charges,

Shift solenoid A performance or stuck off.

Have you lost a gear or gotten stuck in a gear? The shift solenoids are inside the valve body. You'll have to remove the transmission pan and take the filter out. Inside you'll see several bolts and a flat pan. Remove the bolts and please remember their locations as they are not all the same. It may be helpful to draw a patter onto a box and put the bolts in the same pattern. Once you have the valve body out you can see all of the solenoids, they have electrical connectors. Test the terminals between each one for its' resistance and let me know what it is and I'll let you know which one is bad. The fun part is finding one.

2001 Escort ZX2: it wont go out of park...

There is a safety lock-out that keeps you from taking the car out of gear if you don't push the brake. If your brake lights still work then the switch is good. Also, some people have reported that if the high mount brake light is bad it will keep the car from being shifted out of park. If all of your brake lights work then the solenoid is bad. Remove the center console to get to the solenoid. Since the solenoid is expensive most people just zip-tie the solenoid open so that you don't have to push the brake to shift it from park.

Can't shift out of park

sounds like your shift solenoid has failed

next to the gear shifter you will see a little plug

remove the plug and inset your key

this will allow you to shift into neutral

remove your key and start the car

If the battery terminals are not clean and tight it can cause this issue you are having. Corrossion can build up inside the cables and cause this issue as well.

What would cause the switch in the center console to not allow the car to be put in gear

A shift solenoid is in the console. That solenoid operates upon when your foot depresses the brake pedal to shift

My 2002 ZX2 Automatic's sifter doesn't want to shift out of park. Once I get it out of park it drives fine. Any suggestions?

The park lock-out solenoid is bad. It locks the shifter in park until you depress the brake pedal. You can remove the console and replace this solenoid or defeat it with a zip-tie.

Transmission problem with 2001 Ford Escort

Sounds like a problem with the shift interlock. Here's how it works:You put your foot on the brake pedal, the brake pedal switch sends voltage to a solenoid mounted on your shifter. The solenoid unlocks the shifter, and you remove it from Park. When the interlock doesnt work,it's usually the interlock solenoid mounted on the shifter malfunctioning, however the brake pedal switch,or wires to and from can also be at fault.
