Question about Hummer H2

1 Answer

When we park our 2004 Hummer H2 in the driveway next to the house, the battery drains over a few days. We have to keep it plugged in all the time to ensure it will start. BUT, if we park it away from the house, it doesn't seem to be a problem. The dealer said that all our wi-fi equipment in the house is to blame. That's what the problem is. I just have a hard time believing that everyone who owns an H2 has figured this out and is charging their battery every night. Any truth to this? Thanks, Lee

This is April the first and this has to be a joke! Are you the only people with Wi-Fi?
For a battery to go dead on you like that there must be something draining the battery while the vehicle is switched off. It could be something like a trunk light which is not switching off or a short across some circuit that does not show up on any light. The first and easiest test is to disconnect the battery negative cable whenever you park the vehicle overnight etc. and see if the battery still runs down.
As a more positive step and if this does not affect the alarm, disconnect the positive lead from the battery and wire a bulb like a tail light bulb, between the terminal and the removed lead. The bulb should light up. Make sure that everything on the vehicle is switched off, the bulb should still be lit. Remove and replace the fuses one by one until the bulb goes out. That is the circuit that is running your battery flat. Check all the components on that circuit until you get the light to stay out and your problem should be fixed.
Check your charging system. With the engine running at about 2000 rpm, a volt meter across the battery terminals should read around 14 to 14.5 volts and drop to about 13.8 volts with the engine at idle. If this does not happen, the charging system may be defective. Even with lights on the voltage should climb, but will drop lower at idle.

Battery light stays on after key is removed on hummer h2

Check the battery has good charge, should be over 12v with engine off and 13-15v when running.
If it's not holding a charge correctly it will cause light to come on as low power.
There may be something shorted too, keep your eye on power levels with a tester....when you switch off, check....then check again next day "before" you start engine. Look for drop below 12v.

Battery keeps going dead in 2004 H2

because you are going back to a dealer
take it to an accredited auto electrician and have the electric system checked properly instead of guessing the fault

Hummer h2 won't start- all power comes on strong, battery is new. acts like a fuse or a relay. maybe alarm overide

Also check to be sure it is in park. It could also be the key switch. Look in the yellow pages under autoelectric and take it to a shop where a specially trained tech with proper diagnostic tools can isolate and repair your problem.

Key will not turn to off and battery dies after several minutes

chances are it is your tumbler or parking gear switch. you can replace the tumbler (ignition switch) or the parking gear switch is not recognizing that the vehicle is in park and preventing the key from being turned off

Do your brake lights work? It might be the brake switch or the shift interlock solenoid.

never worked on a hummer but rule of the day is that there always is a drain on the firewall on the engine side. usually a small rubber hose about two inches long direced downward. Usually you can stick your finger in there and clear it out. Don't shove anything hard into it or you can punch a hole in the evaporator core.
