This sounds like a bad signal flasher.it is located on the fuse panel under the dash on the drivers side.if you turn on the hazard flasher and look for it you will know what the signal flasher looks like as it is a separate flasher for the signals.check all the fuses as the cruise may just need a fuse.other than that you should have it checked out as the parts are expensive to guess what will fix the problem.

Why would the cruise control quit working it just turned off during a trip,,all three brake lights are working,,did find the 3rd brake light really toasted.

I am not sure why but I had the same trouble with my Ford and when I replaced my turn signal wire and connector on the left rear the cruise worked good. It would work then just when I hit the turn signal to pull out and pass the car automatically would slow down. My wire was toast as well.

Probably a short in the wiring harness inside your steering column.

Remove the shroud pieces around the column

Cruise goes off when left or right signal is used.

you may need to change your signal/cruise control device. You may try an auto recycling center.
Remove the positive wire from the battery
remove screws at the back of the airbags. Don't worry, you disable them when you remove power,
With a socket 1/2in drive and maybe an 18 or 20 remove steering wheel
Once the wheel is remove you should see your signal/cruise device.
You could go to your local auto store and buy a book or online www.hayes.com and it will help with the procedure

Good chance that the controller on your turn signal has gone bad since you started having cruise control issues when you used it to activate your turn signal. You can pick one up at Auto Zone and they will have the step by step instructions for you to replace the turn signal arm with the cruise control switch. it takes about 30 min to replace with common tools.
Thank you for using Fixya and good luck

My cruise control just quit on my 97 olds. how do

First check the fuse in the fuse box. It also sounds like you may have a wire in the column that is shorting out. you may have to replace the turn lever.

Cruise control shuts off with left turn signal

Just a wild suggestion not at all specific to your car... Check the bulbs in, and functionally of, your turn signals and tail lights and brake lights. I'd don't know if it still applies, but once upon a time a burnt out bulb would cause the cruise not to work (some kind of a safety thing).
