The crank position sensor(cps)is located behind the harmonic balancer where it picks up the signal from the shutters attached to the rear of the harmonic balancer.

How do you replace a crank position sensor in a 2004 Grand Prix GTP?

series III 3800 engine, you have to get a harmonic balancer puller (can rent from autozone)
remove the balancer and you will be able to get at the crank position sensor.
while you are replacing, check the wires and make sure the insulation is in good shape and not showing bare wire.
