You may have to buy an oil pick up tube to get the screen as these are usually crimped to the pick up tube so as not to come can go to the wreckers to get one if you don`t want to go to the dealer or engine rebuilder or auto parts store

Oil light on at idle

Two reasons.... oil pressure sender is bad, check this first. You will have to install a manual guage where the oil pressure sending unit is located. If you have not changed you oil regularly, you might have built up sludge in the oil pan and some of the sludge has accumulated on the oil pickup tube located inside of the oil pan.

Why does oil light stay on?

Do u have any unusual sound like ticking? Or low pickup? Has the car stalled at all? Did the engine light ever come on and blink constantly since this issue? Probable causes: Sending Unit. Oil pickup screen clogged. Sound more like oil pressure issue not faulty electric. But do the research. so you don't end on the side of the road waiting game for a tow and possibly a new engine. I've even had that issue on a different car and used Seafoam In the crankcase 6 oz. went on Highway for 10 minutes then drained the oil it was so black and it cleared up the issue.

I changed the oil in my 2002 Taurus 3.0 Flex Fuel motor an d there doesnt seem to be any oil in the old filter. Any thoughts oon this?

I never heard of such a thing on a running motor. If your oil pump was bad or your pickup tube in the oilpan was off or clogged, it could have an effect. A bad block casting with some oil ports not drilled out would be a remote possibility.

You should have an oil pressure test; take off the oil sender unit and install a test gauge. You may be able to find a test gauge at Autozone, Oreillys, or Advance and they have tool loaner programs.

Please let me know the outcome of this, as it is the first case I have heard of a running motor not using its oil filter.

A failing oil pump.. but more likely a clogged pickup tube or screen.. can cause this once you get above a certain rpm..the pump can't keep up with demand so to speak. .

Drop the pan..clean the pan..inspect for solids etc.. .. remove the pickup tube/screen.. clean or replace the pickup tube and screen..those parts are generally pretty inexpensive.

Of course it could be the sending unit.. or a bad ground/short.. yet depending on how well the rig has been maintained..or operating environment.. sludge and solids blocking the pickup tube and screen could be the culprit.

It would never hurt to drain and drop the pan.. new gasket.. new pickup tube and screen..clean the pan.. new filter.. new fresh oil.. some recommend sea foam... just follow the directions.

Best of luck!

Where is the oil pump located on a 1999 ford taurus and whats items do i need replace a long with the oil pump

Remove oil pan oil pump and pick up tube & screen will be bolted on.
You should get oil pump lube, carb. cleaner, new pump oil,
oil pan gasket, silicon, oil & filter, loc-tight, gasket remover & tools metric, 1/4 drive socket set, scraper / putty knife, 2 jack stands, a jack or ramps,
& blocks for rear wheels.
Lets get started.

(1)Get your car up on stands or ramps block rear tires.

(2)Drain oil & remove oil filter remove battery cable NEG (-)

(3)remove pan

(4)remove old pump

(5)remove pick up tube from oil pump

(6)Now clean tube & screen with carb. cleaner place on news paper to dry.

(7) clean all old gasket off from engine & pan also clean bolts

(8)place silicon on pan place gasket on pan put bolts in from gasket side to Aline holes put a side to dry

(9) Attach tube to pump with a little loc-tight fill pump with oil pump lube

(10)attach pump to engine block make sure rod goes in proper & bolt are tight.

(11)Bolt pan back on engine using a 1/4 in drive ratchet don't over tighten bolts get all bolts in now slow run each bolt in starting at 1 end then jump to the other then go to bolt at other end a cross from 1st bolt. Do this till all bolts are ran in. Now tighten bolts look for gasket on side of pan.If it starts to push out stop go to next bolt.

(12)Instill new filter & drain plug,& pour in oil

I hope this works for you it's a basic oil pump change for most cars.
Some take more steps.

My bronco lost oil pressure when it idles it knocks when i give it gas it doesnt knock.what should i do.

typically loss of oil pressure at idle but ok pressure at higher rpm can indicate worn camshaft bearings or main bearings. small possibilty that oil pump is tired or pickup tube for pump has sludge or debris clogging screen.

My 1996 grand am gt has a 3100 v6 and the top of the motor isnt getting any oil , the motor wont tach up and it dies after a few minutes could the oil pump be the only problem maybe a shut down system or...

Likely cams are beginning to seize in the head. Usually this is the result of carbon plugging the oil pump pickup screen or internal oil passages. Changing the pump will not fix this unless your pump is inside the oil pan with pickup attached. If bearing surfaces on cam are damaged, you may be able to restore oil pressure but likely have already done internal engine damage which may extend to crank bearings as well. Generally at this point I recommend a replacement engine or vehicle. I really don't like telling people this.
good luck

Low oil pressure

usually that could mean a failing oil pump....or a clogged pickup in the oil pan, could also mean you have a leak somewhere. the car shutsoff because it protects itself from killn itself
