Question about 2001 Buick LeSabre

1 Answer

My 2001 Buick lesabre temp light comes on the the gauge goes crazy and goes all the way to the hot point the it goes back to normal it was doing it for about 2 days, now the car shut off while driving. I've taken it to 2 different mechanics and they say its the coolant sensor but that has already been replaced. No one seems to know what the issue is I pointed out that it may be the MAP, but was told its not that.

It could be a bad coolant sensor(new or not) could be the map. Get some electrical parts cleaner and take the map out and clean or replace it. It is a very easy job to do. If your unsure do a search on it and watch a few videos on it.

Replace the fuel filter. If that doesnt do it which it probably will, make sure the fuel pressure is consistent, as it could be a faulty fuel pressure sensor.

You will have to remove the gauge assembly and take the cover off to flip the gauge back to proper point.

Cluster gauge on 2001 buick lesabre doesnt work need to know what fuse goes with that panel

Do you mean just thePRND and the odometer are not lighting up?? If yes, then the cluster circuit board has to come out and three new 150 Ohm resistors soldered back on the board.

Temp dial reads hot but is not overheating

The temp sensor, is a thermistor resistor supplying restricted voltage to the gauge depending on the heat of the engine, if it has gone faulty (close circuit) the gauge will read hot all the time. You need to find the sensor, generally near the top of the engine, thermostat area and unplug it, the gauge will then not read. Replace the sensor. (WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD)

Temp gauge goes up to hot then back down only a few times

This is a sign that the thermostat is sticking shut and then opening after the temp gets past a certain point. If the heat gauge goes to high and then drops down suddenly, this is the likely culprit and you need to replace the thermostat - again.

I have had them arrive from the parts store and be defective.
