What is the average price for a fuel pump. I think mine just died

Phone some parts suppliers for your vehicle and they will give you a quote.
1. Take the gas cap off and get someone to switch the ignition on while you listen for the pump operation.. If operable the pump will run for about 3 seconds and then stop.

2, Check the fuse for the pump is sound and not blown.

3. Check the Relay for the pump. Locate the relay in your fuse and relay box and have someone switch the ignition on and off a few times. You should hear the relay clicking. If not it is faulty and needs to be replaced if you want power to the pump.

4. You need to have a mechanic check for fuel pressure with a pressure gauge. When fitted you switch the ignition on and off a few times. If the pump has failed and is getting power to it then you will get zero fuel pressure.

Have you checked your fuel pump to see if it is coming on? You can usually hear it kick on as soon as you turn on the ignition switch,it should run for about 2 seconds then turn off. you may need someone to listen at the tank, take the filler cap off and cycle the ignition on then off a few times while someone listens for the pump,if you dont hear it cut on ,then it`s probably your pump, those vehicals are known to have fuel pump failures. If you do hear the pump,it could be your fuel filter stopped up ,or no fuel in the tank.Hope this helps.

My bmw x5 diesel 2002 not starting when engine has run for 30 or more minutes, and also sometime it does not start in the morning the battery is nearly dead. i have realised that even if i took the...

Hi , this sounds like you have a couple of problems , firstly with the non starting after the engine has been running ,,, this is normally fuel pressure retension or the pre supply pump under the vehicle is faulty , the easiest way to check the pump, is when your vehicle doesn't start with the ignition lights still on , see if you can hear a buzzing noise from under the vehicle just behind the left hand front wheel , this will only prime itself for approx 20 seconds so it may be easier to have the help of someone , if you dont hear the buzzing turn the ignition off for 1 minute and switch on again , if there is no buzzing noise , replace the pre supply pump , the seccond fault with the blower motor running with the ignition off is a simple fault , this will require a replacment heater resistor , the resistor fails and drains the battery so it will cure the blower fault and the flat battery, hope this helps , regards mark

How do you remove the air conditioning pressure switch? we are trying to charge the a/c but need to keep the compressor running and can't figure out how to remove this switch to "jump" it.

I always jump the relayi instead of the sensor, it is easier and don't run the chance to screw up the sensor.

Look for the fuse box in the engine compartment, usually by the battery, take the cover off and look inside, there is a diagram with the location of the fuses and relays, look for the A/C Clutch Relay, (it may not say Clutch in it), look at the diagram in the relay to see which terminals are for the load and which are the ones to activate the coil, turn the key in the Ignition to the "Run" positiion, insert a piece of wire in the holes between the load terminals(usually are 86 and 30), no need to insert relay back, you should hear a click coming from the compressor clutch been activated. Remove Jumper and replace Relay when done working on A/C compressor;

Don't forget to rate this post. Good Luck!!!

No spark

You'd need to track down a wiring diagram to be certain, but usually the power feed for the coil comes direct from the ignition switch contacts. If you take the steering column shrouds off and measure the resistance across the switch contacts that supply the coil, there should be very little resistance there. If there is more than a few ohms it's best to replace the ignition switch. Also check the power supply to the switch and compare with power out, if it drops a lot, then the switch is at fault (might be easier to do this than measure resistance).
Hope this helps, Mark

Saturn ignition switch

Time to take apart the steering column.

Mine is a little older than yours. But if they are at all similar this will be easier than you think.

You'll need to remove the two piece steering column shroud (just behind the steering wheel). Screws located underneath. You may have to jockey with the column tilt and be a bit of a contortionist, but don't get frustrated. Just getting the bottom off should be enough.

On the left side, directly opposite the ignition, you’ll see a piece of round plastic held on with two bolts. This is really the ignition switch.
Take out the bolts ( 7 or 8mm).
Take out the two plugs (blue and white) from behind it.
Take off the switch.

Hope this helped.
