1 Answer

I have a 2009 Jeep Commander. Tyre size is 245/65/17 (Goodyear Wrangler) I want to put 265/65/17 BF Goodrich tyres on the vehicle. Can I do this and will it affect the vehicle badly in any way?

The tire that you're considering is ~20mm or 3/4" wider than the stock tire. You shouldn't experience any negative issues with this tire. If the tire were taller / shorter, you might have speedometer calibration issues or rubbing of the fenders while cornering or going over bumps, but this isn't the case here.

Good luck.

What are the largest size tires and rims I can put on my 1971 ford maverick, thanx

talk with a tyre shop as they have the regulations as to tyre sizes that can be fitted
While you can put wide tyres on the vehicle you are limited by law as to the diameter of the tyre that can be fitted as the vehicle has been certified to run a certain diameter tyre and if you breach that certificate then the vehicle will be un-roadworthy, have an incorrect speedo reading and will negate any insurance in an accident

What are recommended tyre pressures

tire pressure is a function of car weight and tire type.
since you didnt post car year, we cant guess that, can we.
for stock tires, in the USA< open door, see tire pressures clearly stated.
for non stock tires, that sticker is USELESS, (not stated)
so in that case you get to play car engineer.
using the offical loading charts on the tire.
My jeep , has this. and i Did that.
if you get the pressure wrong the tire treads cup or crown.
causing LOST TRACTION.
it's a balance this.

short answer, ask Goodrich. or get the data sheet on YOUR tire.
and read it.
it's there,

Can i go from 14 inch to 15inch tires and rims

If you post your present tyre size (on the tyre wall), then we can offer you a suitable larger replacement diameter size.
The simple answer to your question is yes, you can increase the size of your rims, and lower the profile of your tyre to compensate.

The other thing I'd mention as most people who don't know much about tyres don't consider this, is that when you reduce the height (wall) of a tyre by increasing the rim size, then you change two primary characteristics of the tyre's performance.

1: Tyre wall stiffness. Simply put, the shorter the tyre wall, the stiffer the tyre is when cornering. This can be a positive thing and can reduce the amount of body roll, whilst increasing the tyre's contact with the road.
2: Suspension. The tyre wall offers suspension to the vehicle. Yes, it's not just your springs and shocks which absorb the bumps from the road. By reducing the tyre wall height, you will effectively reduce the suspension capability of the tyre and it will become less forgiving on road surfaces.
It's because of these two reasons above that manufacturers try different combinations to deliver the best overall satisfaction rating to the type of customer who is going to drive that type of vehicle.
It is therefore typical that to many people, changing the rim and tyre size will not always have a positive effect.
In fact most customers who request rim size upgrades, according to my own experience are only interested in the appearance of the wheel, but are often disappointed with the results in performance.
This is why I always find it prudent to mention these points to anyone considering a rim size increase.

Rim size increases, because resulting in less tyre suspension actually increases shocks to the chassis components, and will also tend to reduce the life of these components.

So just be aware of what you face, when making this decision.

2007 suburban dash is saying stability system disabled what does this mean ?

{: ) Check for excessive wear on any of the tires on the vehicle and then verify that all the tires are the same size, brand, and same model. It is also important to check and make sure the tire pressure is properly adjusted per the sticker on the door. The following examples listed below could cause this condition:
1. 2 tires on the vehicle are Goodyear P245/75R16 and the other 2 tires are Firestone P245/75R16
2. 2 Tires on the vehicle are brand new and the other two tires have excessive wear.
3. 2 Tires on the vehicle are Goodyear Wrangler SRA 265/70R17 and 2 tires are Goodyear Wrangler HP 265/70R17 (Same brand/different models)
4. Aftermarket Wheels and Tires (NON-OEM 20 inch wheels and tires)
5. Tire pressure is not properly adjusted.

Can I change my tires to a 265 R16 size, the actual original size of my GMC 2500 Sierra HD tires are 245 R16. My pick up have 6.6 diesel engine with an allison 6 speed transmition, and 2 x 4 configuration.

1st number is tread width (mm)265
r =speed rating
2nd is wheel size, in inches 16
the rule of thumb re tread width, is the tread should not exceed the inner wheel width, measured inside the wheel/tyre sealing area by more then 20mm.
otherwise car will tend to sway when steered for moose test.so check your wheels first...
r rating only good upto 100 mph intermitently...
