Question about 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche

1 Answer

Hi my husband is having trouble with our 2005 avalanche. He switched the truck into 4 low to get unstuck at our cabin and now he can't get back into 2 wheel drive to get home. The switch doesn't want to switch over. Does anyone have any suggestions on how he can get the switch to switch over or how to solve this problem so he can get home. Thanks

More than likely the selenoid that does the shifting is stuck or inoperable. There are several things that have to happen to make this shift and 2 of them are electrical. The other is to make sure the truck is in nuetral and stopped before trying to switch in or out of 4 wheel low. Have him try to shift both with the foot on the brake pedal and if that doesn't work try it with the foot off the pedal as long as the truck is in nuetral and not moving. If this does not free it, then the selenoid may be gummed up and stuck, In some cases just driving it on a bumpy road can free it up after it is good and warm. Other wise I would have him check for any wires than may have came loose in the transfer case. Also rocking back and forth can cause the selenoid to unstick. If nothing works then he might have to get it serviced. If the 4 wheel drive is not used for a while they sometimes get gummed up and then stick. The other thing that can go bad is the transfer motor, which is an electric motor before the transmission, which is responsible for sliding into 4WD. This has to be repaired by a shop.
Good luck and have him keep trying it is possible it will free itself and shift into 2 wheel. Has he tried 4 wheel high? he can still get home that way just uses more gas.

On some trucks it is mounted in the headliner above the driver's head. Looks like a round grille. Need to lower headliner to replace it, if that's where it is.

2005 Chevy Avalanche - my heater contol turns the fan off when I put it on fine on 1, 2, 3, and 4, but as soon as I turn it to 5 stops.....

Motor switch has gone out, most likely due to high load on level 5. Replace switch and I suggest lubricating blower motor bearing to help take the strain on the system.

2005 Avalanch stuck in 4 wheel low

Try backing up about 50 feet and try it again. I don't know about GM but, on a Ford you have to have the transmission in neutral and your foot on the brake, before the transfer case will shift.

No probably not, first check the fuse for the 4wd in the fuse box if that's OK its likely the actuator on the front axle..........providing the shifter handle moves to the proper location and if its push button the lights light in the switch when selected...the actuator plugs into the wiring harness and screws into the front easy remove and replace part even for a novice.
