Yes the ignition switch and ignition switch relay needs changing.. your key turns the ignition switch, this has a lot of wires connected to it connected to relays that sends power to different stuff in your car, when you take the key out the power cuts. so the only reason for your problem is that.. In the mean time to save your battery until you can take the car to a garage (dont attempt self repairs for this) you can disconnect your negative battery terminal, or pull the fuse for the ignition from the fuse box under the hood. There is a diagram on the cover showing where everything it..

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Apr 02, 2011

No i never worked on the ford but i do know its the same as what happens in other vehicles. The relay is more than likely under the dash, or in the fuse box under the hood.

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Apr 02, 2011

well if you want to attempt self repairs this is how..

1.) look under the dash you will find 4 screws holding the bottom part of the steering covering in place.
    2.) remove them.
3.) remove the screws holding the top part, but dont remove it, lift it up a bit.
4.) unbolt and remove the ignition switch.
    5.) unclip it from harness.
6.) clip in your new switch, If the switch has n immobilizer make sure its reprogrammed to your key first from the person u brought it from.
7.) test everything before you reassemble. once satisfied reassemble. if not go to 8.
8.) trace the other part of the harness to a relay in a shouldered case. replace it as well.

Hello,

First check if the headlamp is actually turned off. If the head lamp is turned off and the lamps still stays on, then it means the switch of your head lamp is defective.

You can have it checked by an expert if you are not familiar with fixing stuffs like this in order to avoid further damage.

Let me know if you need more help.

Take care.

Open the rear deck. There are two phillip head screws holding the tail light assembly, located just inside the rear deck jam. remove them, then gently remove the TL assy. The sockets twist out CC. Then you can replace the bulb. Look at the socket to see if it is black ( burned ). Common on the WS. Hope this helps. TJ

I have a 2001 Windstar and can help you with your question. The headlight lamp is easy to replace. Open the hood and reach behind the headlight assembly. Carefully grasp the lamp and turn it counter clockwise. Once the lamp is out, remove the wire pigtail. Replace the lamp and reinstall. A real easy fix.
