well you need to find out if it is spark or fuel giving you the problem check for spark first they have problems with the crankshaft position sensor which could be the problem not easy to get to its bolted to the bell housing with 2 bolts if you do not have spark that would be a good place to start
My brother's 02 grand am 2.2L would not start. Car has spark, fuel pump works, good battery, plugs and plug boots new, new fuse for the fuel pump in the fuse block under the hood, everything seems to work but car won't start, crank sensor fine timing chain fine etc... The problem was a security issue. Security light on dash was blinking when trying to start the car but car won't start. The fix for me was Attempt to start the car by turning the key to the Start/Run Position. Observe that the vehicle fails to start and that the security light is blinking. Release key to the 'ON/Accessory' Position. (DO NOT turn key to the 'off' position.) Allow the vehicle to sit with the key in the 'ON/Accessory' Position for no less than 12 minutes. Turn key to off position and allow the vehicle to remain in the 'OFF' position for no less than 30 seconds. Then try to start the car. I was surprised this worked for me. 2002 pontiac grand am 2.2L. Hope this helps for you folks.
Hi I'm Peter, check the fuse box under the hood there is a fuel fuse and a fuel relay then check them. Use a meter to check the fused also check at you are getting voltage to the fuse by using a meter touching each of the post where the fuse plugs in when the key is on you should have power to one of them but not the other with the fuse out. There are several relays that are the same part number as the fuel relay so you can check it by just using one of the relays like for the horn or headlights. If all that checks out look for a port on the fuel rail to put a fuel pressure gauge on and see if the is any fuel pressure. Could be a fuel pump if all the other things I mentioned are in good working order. Let me know what you find . Good Luck
Have a friend lay/sit/crouch by the back of your truck(Where the tank is), and turn the key on. they should hear a "whirring" sound. If they do, the pump is fine(Check fuel filter). If they hear nothing, replace your fuel pump!
check fuel pressure.sound like fuel pump not working.fuel pressure should be 41 - 47 psi. if not replace fuel filter, still too low pump faulty, if you not getting fuel pressure, pump still not working check fuel pump fuse and relay.code scan car first look for fault in pcm.it controls the fuel pump relay and fuel pump.
First, verify that there is gas in the vehicle. Next, listen for the pump to energize when you turn the ignition switch to the on position. If you dont hear anything, check the fuel pump relay. Swap it with another one next to it, they are often the same part. If it still doesn't energize, its most likely the pump thats failed. If you hear the pump energize, then the pump pressure needs to be checked. A fuel gauge needs to be connected under the hood on the fuel rail to read system pressure. Verify that its at factory specs. If not, replace the pump.
If the security light is flashing when the key is on then it is the passport 2 anti-theft system. You need to turn the key to the on position (one away from cranking it over) and leave it until the light goes out. Then turn the key off, remove it, then try to restart it.
turn key to on position do not crank engine when gas gauge moves up and all lights up in dash you should her a grunt sound from back seat area to deterimne if fuel pump is working no grunt no fuel pump!!
