Question about Toyota Xtracab

1987 Toyota Pickup 4x4 Problems I have a 87 Toyota that has been giving me problems for a while now. I just got a brand new Die Hard Battery w/ 650cca because old battery was done. After putting it in I noticed the Brake and Battery Charge light come on at start. They then go off after I rev it lightly and drive off. Both lights stay off until the next time I start it. I drove it the other day some and was dark when I was coming home. The lights kept getting dimmer and dimmer, then the truck hopped some as if it was another bad battery. Now, I have replaced the Alternator, the Battery, and the Starter twice. Can someone tell me why my truck keeps dieing on me??

Hello, it sounds like the alternator is the problem, most auto parts stores can check the alternator/charging system at no charge without removing it from the truck, I'm sure you will find that the alternator needs to be replaced.

SOURCE: 87 toyota camry new battery wont keep charge,

Generally if charge light is on, alternator has a bad diode in it. This lets the charged battery lose its power by flowing in the reverse direction. It sounds as the alt., is either not connected right or is swtill bad

SOURCE: Daughter called me wont

it sounds like you have blown fuse to the Alternator.. I don't know what car you are talking about but they charging systems vary.. But if alternator isn't getting all the power it needs it won't charge. this should be checked.

good luck

I'd start with a fuel filter. That, and when was last healthy tune up? Plugs, wires, all fluids & filters? I'd do the tune up also, it will give you a good "ground zero" starting point "if" problems continue.

First, is this a factory replacement starter from your local toyota dealer? My guess is not.......right? Well in my experience if is not a brand new starter meaning not a rebuild or reman they always give you problems, the click you heard is the solenoid plunger trying to get it going but dirty or worn out contacts that passed inspection some do your self a favor and buy one from your local dealer or at least a good brand but new, usually I take my apart and clean them my self also replace those contacts and plunger and last one just pass 80k miles in service no problems, make sure you tight those bolts and for peace off mine use blue lock tight.

My toyota pick up 87 starts sometimes. I changed the strarter and the wires. What can be the problem?

I would check the battery outside of the car and in the car to determine if dirty contacts are the problem.

A load test at your local Sears or Walmart or parts store should help to isolate the problem.

A thorough wire brushing of the electrical contacts can sometimes clear up intermittent starting problems.
