To get the timing corrected you will need a scanner, and it is possible, the distributor needs to be removed and put back in a tooth one way or another to be able to set the timing correctly.

I'm getting ready to change the head gaskets on my 2003 chevy malibu. I have water in my motor where everything looks like a creamy milk shake.

I would think it would be better after you change the head gasket and drain the old oil from the system. Then check the new oil and depending of how much water you are seeing in the new oil you may want to flush the engine. I suspect it will not be necessary because the time it takes to change the head gasket will also allow for the excess water to drain to the oil pan.

I just replaced the head in my 99 neon and i'm blowing white smoke from the exhaust. What's the problem

You are burning coolant, the head gasket can be put on Wrong, If your looking at the engine the right rear corner is the only oil passage for the head, you will see a difference in that corner of the head gasket. If your sure that the gasket is on right you may have a warped or cracked head or improper torqued head, all head bolts MUST be replaced when you do a new gasket cause the bolts stretch when torqued. The spec is 25, 50 then 50 then 1/4 turn for the bolt torque.. Make sure u start from the center of the head.

Replacing a 99 chevy intake manifold/head gasket

These engines are legendary for intake manifold gaskets leaking, and this is exactly what's happening with this one. Yes, you will have to remove the intake manifold, and to do so, you will need the torque diagram to remove it, and also to torque the new one. It's best that you buy a Haynes manual so you know the exact procedure; it's a $15 insurance that you will be glad to have. If you aren't having problems with the head gaskets, I'd leave them alone personally, but if you want to undertake these, now would be the time to do so, as there's not a lot more to take apart. Main suggestion though, is to be absolutely sure you keep the push rods in the exact order and orientation, as they each have a unique wear pattern with the lifter. Changing them can cause them to lose their seal, depriving the valve of oil, and ruining your head.

No you don't need to change the head gaskets, unless you suspect that you have a blown or leaking head gasket.

How do I tell what engine a car goes to? I have block numbers and head numbers but the engine is for a boat I'm rebuilding and I need to know so I can get the right gaskets.

what are the engine numbers or if u know make,yr and size of motor --like ford 89-- 351ci or chevy 99-- 5.7li if u know those basically dont need vehicle info for gaskets or parts depending on where ur getting ur parts some auto stores are to break down the engine number and head numbers and same with performance/speed shops

Cooling leaking inside engine

If it does there may be a recall on it. Always check with the dealer before doing a big repair. Even though the truck is old they may still do it for free.
