Question about Ford Crown Victoria

1 Answer

I have a 1989 Ford Crown Vic, the gas tank got a hole in it so I swaped it out with one from my 1991 crown vic. The problem i'm getting now is my 89's tank had the fuel sender and pump in different holes, and my 91's tank has them in the same. The wire colors were the same so i hooked them up according to color and the pump works great but the fuel guage is not reading correctly. Is there a way to make it read write? or do i have to fix my old one and put it back in?

My gas gage doesn't work. It always say empty and that orange light never turns off . How do I fix this?

Your float in the tank that reads your fuel lvl has a hole, has filled with gas, and no longer floats. Remove the tank, and install new float.

My gas guage isnt working in my 1989 crown vic...is it definetly the float in the tank or could it be something else?

It is improbable that it is the float, more likely the wiper that is connected to the float, or the resistance windings/circuit that the wiper runs across. Access to this is on the top of the fuel tank. The gauge could also be faulty or there could be a bad connection on the panel PC board behind the dash.

How big is the gas tank on a 1992 ford crown vic. how many miles to the gallon. my gas gauge doesnt work. so i dont know anything about the gas.

1992 Ford Crown Vic 4.6 L V8 Automatic

Fuel tank capacity is 20 gallons (US).

Your fuel consumption will be affected by many factors, such as :
- how you drive the vehicle
- the condition and tune of the motor
- driving conditions (traffic, city use, highway use etc)
- tire pressures
- type and grade of fuel used .

It is impossible for me to estimate what fuel consumption you can expect from your own particular car without a whole lot of information.

It's unwise to run the vehicle for long with no working fuel gauge.

How do i repalce a fuel pump in a 1983 ford crown vic? can i get to the tank from above or do i need to drop the tank?

There's no way to get to it through the top (unless you remove the rear seat and cut a hole where the center of the backrest is). You'll have to either drop the tank, or the rear axle.

1992 crown vic with 78K miles. Started skipping

Replace you Maf sensor and have a nice day. lol does the hesitation go away when you let off the gas. does it buck hesitate and misfire under load? most common problem is the maf sesnor.
easy to change. don't buy a used part it may develop the same problem after a little while. you can try cleaning the wire inside with brake cleaner (not intake cleaner). it may or may not help.
