Question about 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Low water indicator sender is in a small compartment which has no water in it so how does it check water level?

Maybe it's meant to have water in it.Is it a plastic bottle with a cap on it?

    The sender is a push fit into a small chamber at the rear of the plastic header / reserve tank which has a pressure cap, so if the two compartments were joined the sender being a push fit would blow out. So how is water allowed to enter the sender compartment without pressure?

    One chamber is the header unit and the other is the radiator overflow,catch tank.Just put some water in it so its about 60% full and see what happens.

2006 Chevy Colorado Truck. Gas tank filled and fuel gauge indicator dropped to 1/4 full, when truck is idling fuel gauge drops to empty and low fuel light comes on. Suggestions? Thank you.


Check and or test fuel gauge sending unit and the gauge . Videos on youtube showing how to . Also i would have the vehicle checked for DTC's - diagnostic trouble codes . You may want to think about taking to a qualified repair shop .

Fuel Gage
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the fuel level as determined by the engine control module (ECM). The IPC receives a serial data message from the BCM indicating the fuel level percent. The fuel gage defaults to empty if:
• The ECM detects a malfunction in the fuel level sensor circuit.
• The IPC detects a loss of serial data communications with the BCM.
• The BCM detects a loss of serial data communications with the ECM.

DTC P0461
The fuel level sender changes resistance based on fuel level. The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the signal circuit of the fuel level sender in order to determine fuel level. When the fuel tank is full, the sender resistance is low and the PCM senses a low signal voltage. When the fuel tank is empty, the sender resistance is high and the PCM senses a high signal voltage. The PCM uses the signal circuit of the fuel level sender in order to calculate the total remaining fuel percent in the tank. The PCM sends the fuel level percent via the class 2 serial data circuit to the instrument cluster in order to control the fuel gage. The fuel level information is also used for misfire and evaporative emission (EVAP) diagnostics.

1995 Ford Ranger 2.3 L coolant temperature gauge not working like it should


possible low coolant level
loose wire on sender unit
faulty sender unit
take the wire of the sender unit and put it to ground
with the ignition switch on , the gauge should go straight to hot
that indicates the circuit and gauge is operational which leaves the coolant level and sender unit

Not sure but sounds like low oil pressure, you need to stop and check the oil level

The rising and falling temp gauge indicates a low water level in the cooling system as hot water is splashed against the sender . Have a pressure test done on the coolant system and find the leaks . Remember to check inside in the heater core as well. Have a compression test done to check for head gasket and cracks

Low coolant light won't go off


possible two faults. the wire to the low level sensor is broken in the plastic which is an indication of no water to complete the circuit. and the wire to the temperature sender unit is loose on the unit.

I have a 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis Ls with a fuel gauge that does not work (gauge may be reversed)??? help please.


The fuel level indicating system is a magnetic type system, which consists of the sending unit located in the fuel tank, an anti-slosh module located on the back of the instrument cluster, and a fuel gauge located in the instrument cluster. The sending unit changes resistance according to the level of fuel in the fuel tank, which varies the current flow through the gauge.The pointer position varies proportionately to the current flow. In this system, the sending unit resistance is low (22 ohms) when the fuel level is low and high( 145 ohms) when the fuel level is high. The pointer of the magnetic gauge remains in position when the ignition is turned to the Off position. On some models, an anti-slosh module is used to dampen out fluctuating fuel signals from the sender. Some vehicles are equipped with a low fuel warning indicator. The anti-slosh module will also actuate the low fuel indicator when the fuel level in the tank reaches 1/16 to 1/8 full.


Do your other gauges/warning indicators work properly with the ignition on? If not, check for power at the fuse panel/fuses.

If they do then partially remove your cluster with connector still installed and check for voltage at cluster connector and gauge. Check continuity of cluster and gauge for ground.

Sometimes the anti-slosh module (if installed) goes bad in the Grand Marquis but not likely.

Sender troubleshooting:
  1. Perform test with resistors as follows:
    1. Disconnect wiring connector at sender unit, then connect resistor between gauge lead and a suitable ground.
    2. Turn ignition switch to On position.
    3. With 145 ohm resistor, the gauge pointer should contact the Full mark.
    4. With 22 ohm resistor, the gauge pointer should contact the Empty mark.
  1. Perform test with fuel sender of known quality as follows:
    1. Turn ignition to Off position.
    2. Disconnect wiring connector from sender and connect it to test sender.
    3. Move float rod away from fuel filter against Full stop position. Wait approximately 30 seconds, then turn ignition switch to On position. The gauge should read on or above the Full mark.
    4. Move float rod toward fuel filter against Empty stop position. Turn ignition switch to Off position. Wait approximately 30 seconds, then turn ignition switch to On position. The gauge should read on or below the Empty mark. If gauge works properly replace sender, which involves dropping fuel tank.

Why would the fuel filter light be staying on


I am pretty sure that there is no fuel filter light, there is a fuel low level indicator that turns on when the fuel is low, if the fuel is not low then the sender unit is broke.

This indicator is red or dark orange and look like a gasoline pump.

Coolant level low light comes on and coolant level is not low in reserve tank or radiator.

Condition

Some customers may comment that the low engine coolant level indicator is always illuminated.


Cause

The cause of this condition may be due to engine oil contaminating the coolant. Possible sources of oil contamination are internal engine leaks, improper service procedures, or the addition of some types of anti-leak additives to the cooling system. Once in the coolant, the oil leaves deposits on the level sensor creating an insulating film. This film results in a false activation of the coolant level indicator.


Correction

Diagnose low coolant level system operation and check the sensor for oil contamination using the procedure listed below.


Important: No coolant supplements should be used in GM cooling systems, other than what is approved and recommended by GM. The use of "aftermarket" over-the-counter sealing and cooling supplements may affect the operation of the low coolant level sensor. Discoloration of the coolant recovery bottle is normal and does not necessarily indicate that coolant contamination is present. Flush cooling system only when instructed by this bulletin.

1. Verify that the coolant is at proper level in the radiator and the coolant recovery bottle. If the coolant is low, add proper amount of 50/50 water and DEX-COOL(R) mixture. If the low coolant light operates properly, diagnose the cooling system for loss of coolant as outlined in SI. DO NOT proceed further with this bulletin.

2. Remove the low coolant level sensor. Refer to Coolant Level Module Replacement in the Engine Cooling sub-section.

3. With the key on, the engine off and the coolant level sensor disconnected from the vehicle wiring harness, observe the low coolant light:


^ Light is on - Chassis wiring or instrument cluster concern. Follow the appropriate diagnostic information in SI.

^ Light is out - Proceed to Step 4.



4. With the key off, connect the coolant level sensor into the vehicle's wiring harness. Connect a ground wire (1) to the battery negative terminal. Using a sharp probe (3) attached to the ground wire, ground the coolant sensor probe (2) as shown in the illustration. Make sure a good contact is made. With the key on and the engine off, observe the low coolant light for at least 15 seconds.


^ Light is on - Replace the low coolant sensor and re-check system operation.

^ Light is out - Proceed to Step 5.


5. Using a small wire brush or emery cloth, polish the low coolant level sensor probe to remove any film or oxidation. The probe should be a bright brass color when finished. Use Brake Parts Cleaner to flush removed deposits from the low coolant sensor probe. Re-install the low coolant sensor into the vehicle and proceed to Step 6.

6. Flush the cooling system and install new DEX-COOL(R) mixture as outlined in the SI. Check the vehicle's warranty history to determine if any engine gasket had recently been changed. If there has not been a recent gasket replacement, locate and repair the source of the engine oil contamination.

What is the check gauges light


CHECK GAGES light (1) indicates a potential engine failure(low oil pressure, low coolant, coolant overheating) has occurred.
· Check gages and shut down engine. Gages should read as follows: Oil pressure 5 to 10 psi (34 to 69 kPa) at idle; Water Temp gage below 230 degrees (110 C).
· Check engine oil level (Para 2-11) if OIL PRESS gage indicates low reading. Check coolant level (Para 2-11) if Water Temp gage indicates high reading. Notify Unit Maintenance if levels are low.

If CHECK ENGINE light (2) is on, check engine oil pressure gage (3) and water temperature gage (4). If both indicate normal, proceed with mission and then notify Unit Maintenance. If either one does not indicate normal, stop engine immediately and notify Unit Maintenance
