What i often do is to push a metal pipe inside the plastic one and then use two clips ,easy solution ,but do you really need to change the filter ,i only change them as and when they are corroded through ,very rarely do i change a fuel filter ,blow them backwards yes but change them ?' or it could be a our petrol pumps here in spain have filters built into them so changing fuel filters on petrol engines is not a common thing ,even diesels will last the life of the car unless they get water in them ,problem is many garages want to change filters as its a good source of profit margin

Steering wheel wont move so i cant start the car

Rocking it back and forth will sometimes release a jammed steering wheel. It happens sometimes if the key is removed too quickly and the wheels are not straight. You should check the internet to see if your car is one of the many that have this problem and that have a recall issued. MAny GM and Saturn models have stuck keys, etc.

How to replace gas filter

The gas or commonly referred to as a fuel filter is pretty simple to replace. Its usually located on the drivers side frame rail roughly where the rear door is. Its a small silver/grey canister looks like a can of corn/peas/fruit etc. but a little smaller. Its is connected by two quick disconnects either tabs or 2 flare nuts which can be used with a common wrench in any tool set. Very easy to change. Make sure you loosen the gas cap before working to release the pressure on the fuel system prior to breaking loose the lines to the filter. Hope this helps

Where is the fuel filter located on a 2000 Chevy Cavalier 4cyl?

Fuel Filter REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Fig. 1: Remove the quick connect fitting from the filter 91141p82.jpg
Fig. 2: Using a 21mm back-up wrench and a 16mm wrench on the line, loosen the feed line from the filter 91141p83.jpg
Fig. 3: Carefully unthread the feed line from the filter and . . . 91141p84.jpg
Fig. 4: . . . remove the filter from the retaining bracket by pulling the filter outward 91141p85.jpg
NOTE: The vehicles covered in this manual are equipped with "Quick Connect'' fuel fittings. For more information regarding these fittings, please refer to Section 5 of this manual. An inline filter can be found in the fuel feed line attached to the rear crossmember of the vehicle. CAUTION
Before disconnecting any component of the fuel system, refer to the fuel pressure release procedures found in Section 5.
  1. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure as outlined in Section 5.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle with jackstands.
  3. Grasp the filter and nylon fuel line fitting on the tank-to-filter line. Twist the "quick-connect'' fitting 1?4 or a turn in each direction to loosen any dirt within the fitting. Use compressed air to blow out the dirt from the fittings at the end of the fuel filter.
  4. Detach the quick-connect fitting by pushing inward toward the filter and grasping the plastic tab around the connector and pull apart. If additional assistance is required to disconnect the fitting, tool J 38778 or equivalent can be placed between the filter and the fitting release mechanism to carefully force the two apart. Be careful not to bend the special tool. NOTE: Always use a back-up wrench anytime the fuel filter is removed or installed.
  5. Using a backup wrench (where possible) to prevent overtorquing the lines or fittings, loosen and disconnect the feed line from the filter. Be sure to position a rag in order to catch any remaining fuel which may escape when the fittings are loosened.
  6. Remove the fuel filter from the retaining bracket. To install:
  7. Before installing a new filter, apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the male tube end of the filter. This will ensure proper attachment and prevent a fuel leak.
  8. Position the filter into the retaining bracket with the directional arrow facing away from the fuel tank, towards the throttle body. NOTE: The filter has an arrow (fuel flow direction) on the side of the case, be sure to install it correctly in the system, with the arrow facing away from the fuel tank.
  9. Push the connectors on the quick-connect fitting together to cause the retaining tabs/fingers to snap into place. Pull on both ends of the connection to be sure they are secure.
  10. Connect the fuel feed line to the filter, then tighten, using a backup wrench to prevent damage, to 20-22 ft. lbs. (27-30 Nm).
  11. Carefully lower the vehicle.
  12. Connect the negative battery cable and tighten the fuel filler cap, then start the engine and check for leaks.

Cant get the fuel quick conncect to release.

Are you using the proper quick disconnect tool and size. If not, go to autoparts store and purchase a cheap set. Choose the right tubing size one and slip it right around the line. Then, push it foward into the flare of the connector, and just pull it apart..... or you have what's called a hair pin type nylon connector. I believe that you just pull out on the tab and it will relese the line. If you break it, I think you can get more from autoparts store. Good luck!42301612

Trying to remove a fuel filter From a 2001 VW beetle. How does it release from the fuel line?

VERY CAREFULLY - If you break the quick disconnects on the fuel lines it will cost you a fortune!!! 500.00 + because they have to string NEW FUEL LINES. - I have replaced the fuel filter a couple of times - I have a 2000 beetle with a 1.8 Turbo. The fuel lines are pressurized so you will need to relieve the pressure before you try and remove the filter or you will get a face full of gas. The filter comes off by pushing the fuel line toward the filter and then pushing the quick release button on the fuel line. The fuel line should then decouple - the filter lives under the car near the right rear tire (just in front) Good luck and be careful

Can not remove the fuel filter on my 1994 ford bronco

Hi, Fuel filters and some other hose connections on vehicles today use a clip mechanism that is easily released with a small plastic tool. These tools are available in most auto parts stores. They come in a set to accommodate different size hoses. and metal barbs. Simply put the longer end of the tool toward the fitting and press to release. Good Luck!
